Hiding categories is only meant to hide, or not display, any associated CSS. The categories still exist and so are listed in the legend.

I suggest making a one off plugin for this. An example, https://github.com/afragen/category-colors-options/

I think I found the issue.
Can you change line 43 in src/Category_Colors/views/legend.php from
<?php if ( isset( $options['show_ignored_cats_legend'] ) ) : ?>
to
<?php if ( ! empty( $options['show_ignored_cats_legend'] ) ) : ?>
Let me know if that works.
That worked but not as you indicated. Also there was no directory
src/Category_Colors/views/
The “views” directory was under../src/
I copied that over inside of “Category_Colors” and it fixed the error

My client’s website has the same issues where ALL the categories appear over the calendar- incuding the ones we’ve specifically coded to appear here in this file:
