The plugin creates static files in a folder/location of your choice. It doesn’t actually do anything else. The claims are based on “what could be achieved..”.

So you took 3 stars off because the plugin chose to advertise the benefits of static site generation?

It’s quite obvious that users generally want to generate a static version of their site in order so that they could host that static version.

But yes, it would be cool if the plugin enabled you to automatically serve the static site without actually physically separating the WP source website and the static hosting.

    Hey @randomcoder,

    thanks for your honest review!

I get your point from a user perspective, but the problem is that this would eliminate the whole point of a static site setup.

While it would be easier to set up, it would also be way easier to hack (because we would need to use WP’s permalink solution to handle that).

However, there is a plugin that you can use in conjunction with Simply Static to do precisely that: https://designmodo.com/static-pages/

I know it’s not free, but that would do precisely what you imagined, no?

@luboslives Thanks for stepping in; highly appreciated! 🙂

    Cheers,
    Patrick
