• Hi All,

I’m preparing the website for our festival in August. I started from a new template etc. Everything was going fine, until I paused it a couple of weeks ago and now picked up again.
Any update I tried to do on a post or page results in a ‘Failed update. Invalid JSON response error’.

I’ve spend the past week trying to resolve it by executing literally anything I found on the subject via Google. Unfortunately, the issue is still there.

    Things i’ve tried so far:
(anything listed here: Finally: Fix updating failed. The Invalid JSON Error in WordPress – ThemeDev)

    • Update permalink structure
    • Disabling all plugins
    • Deleting the .httpaccess file
    • Modifying the .httpsaccess file
    • My cache plugin was deactivated, however, enabled it and cleared the cache

When I open the development console on my page I notice that the server responded with a 406 error (Not Acceptable). As all pages indicate, there seems to be an issue with the API towards the server. Unfortunately, I don’t know where to look/what to do to resolved it.

    Any suggestions/experiences is highly appreciated!

  • I would ask your host. The cause of the 406 error is usually due to a mod_security rule on the server or similar security module. mod_security is a security module.

These security modules use a pattern match set of rules and it is likely to be matching something effectively a falso positive.

If you giv eyou host details of time and type of activity they should be able to look in their logs and identify and hopefully modify the rule that is blocking.

@alanfuller Thanks for your response. Researched the .mod_security thing. Apparently, I can create ignore rules for my domains.

Any suggestions? I need to enter an ID, I assume this refers to OWASP things. No clue what to do/whitelist to resolve my issue.
