Can you set up WP Mail Logging plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-mail-logging/

Then do a test with the additional information disabled and then one with it enabled.

After that check if both email requests are being logged in there and if it shows an error for the second one.

If they’re both logged and errors are not shown then it’s possible that something in there is triggering a spam filter either on your server (or whatever you use for email sending functionality) or a spam filter on your email provider (GMail or similar, not sure what you use).

Thank you for your reply. I installed wp-mail-logging as suggested and found no errors in the log, when sending mail. After changes made to the set up of the contact form , the problem disappeared, but I cannot be sure why.
