Hi Joe, issue I wanted to ask you about. I’m using a shortcode and have been for some time but all of a sudden descending events are not being removed as the dates pass.

For example, an event on 7/11/24 is still showing on 7/12/24. This seems like a new issue perhaps due to a plugin update or a settings update I might have made but wanted to see if you had any guesses why.

I’m using the w3 total cache plugin as well but have been forever so not sure if there’s a new setting in there I need to update. Events only remove now when I empty cache manually.

Here is the shortcode and should show only upcoming events:
    [my_calendar_upcoming before=”0″ after=”999″ type=”event” fallback=”No events currently scheduled” category=”” template=”{daterange} {time} – {endtime} {link_title} > {location}” order=”asc” show_today=”yes” skip=”0″ ltype=”” lvalue=””]

    Thank you

If you don’t clear the cache, do the events eventually go away? If so, do you know how long it takes?

This seems to have started around end of June 2024. I don’t have a huge sample size of data but since this started happening and noticed it, it had been over 7 days and past due events were still showing from 7+ days out. I’ve been monitoring it now day to day and having to manually clear cache on w3 total cache to get events to remove.

I was wondering if there was something with the most recent plugin update or update before that. I haven’t changed any w3 cache settings and don’t believe any settings in My Calendar would have changed this. I posted the code I’m using above and all looks correct using the [my_calendar_upcoming.. code.

Let me know if I can provide any other data or screenshots.

I haven’t committed anything that touched event or shortcode caching for quite a long time; certainly not in the last several releases. Perhaps W3 total cache made an update that’s impacting this? If you clear & disable W3 Total Cache, do you have the same problem?

Hi Joe. It appears to be something with W3 Total Cache as when I deactivate plugin or manually clear cache on plugin the past events in the upcoming short code are removed as intended. W3 Total Cache seems to be preventing the events from automatically being removed.

It sounds a bit to me like W3 Total Cache is caching the entire page. If so, then what you probably want to do is exclude the event page from being cached.

That’s a great idea Joe. Let me try that and assume that will fix this issue. Good to know moving forward or future use cases.
