I need to backup my files using my hosting cpanel File manager.

However I am unsure how top do this. I can see loads of directories in File Manager. DO I need all of them or just the one that is/[mydomainname] ?

EDIT: or better still recommend a free Plugin that actually works, that can do the job?

    Hi Andrew,

There are quite a few free and premium plugins which allow backups. The premium ones usually offer scheduled backups which include other formats such as cloud providers.

For the CPanel, I recommend you discuss directly with your hosting provider, as this is something they can advise you of specific to their own platform.

your site is comprised of a DATABASE and FILES

    • EXPORT your database (probably in PHPMYADMIN area) – save on your computer
    • DOWNLOAD wp-content directory (contains uploads, themes, plugins etc) – save on your computer
    • DOWNLOAD wp-config.php file – save on your computer

There may be other useful files, that’s why using a backup service or plugin is handy.
