Vern Pallack[1] was a captain in the Royal Redanian Army. He served alongside the medic Shani at the Battle of Dorian and was later tasked by Albrecht Hockenhole to protect her while she collected a sample of venom from the Frog Prince in the Oxenfurt sewers. The beast killed him, five other soldiers, and many young women until it was later killed by Geralt.
