Rivia Castle is a royal palace located in the city of Rivia, capital of the homonym Kingdom.
History[]
In early July 1267, during the beginnings of the Second Northern War, the castle, as the whole Rivia, was marched upon by the Nilfgaardian Army led by Field Marshall Menno Coehoorn. Prepared for a siege lasting months, Rivia capitulated after two days under the pressure of the guilds and the merchants who were promised that, should the town open its gates and pay a ransom, it wouldn't be sacked. Coehoorn kept his promise, and swiftly moved the army northward, leaving numbers to occupy the city and castle.[1]
Duke Ardal aep Dahy, one of the Emperor's advisors, was given control of the city, and used the castle as his temporary base of operations in the war. It was however taken back months later by Queen Meve of Lyria and Rivia in the Battle for Rivia Castle.[2]
