Ignatius Verrieres was the ruler of White Orchard and baronet of Amavet Fortress prior to Nilfgaard's conquest of White Orchard during the Third Northern War.
Biography[]
As baronet, Ignatius had the witcher Kolgrim of the School of the Viper detained and interrogated over the alleged kidnapping of a beekeeper's boy. The lord allowed Kolgrim a trial by ordeal, in accordance with Temerian common law at the time. The witcher was to cleanse the Verrieres' family crypt of wraiths, during which task he perished, and it was later found out that he was in fact innocent.
After it became known that his son Florian was homosexual, Ignatius banished his lover (Mislav) from the family castle. Florian then committed suicide by hanging, and the lord turned to drinking over his son's death, leading the estate to fall into ruin.
However, the lord also had a temper. Ignatius barged into a local's wedding where he brought up an antiquated law where he had the right of sleeping with the bride on the first night. He also killed a man named Johann for taking his cap off too slowly and trampled the fields of his subjects while he was drunk without giving any sort of compensation. In 1250, one of the lord's subjects, Volker, sent a petition to the Vizima court, listing all the grievances Ignatius had done to his subjects.[1] The court recognized the towns grievances and waived all their bonds and duties they had to the lord and the peasants set out and created a village called Hovel. During this time, the lord's son died, and Claer and Volker foolishly thought him a changed man when rumors spread that he wanted to visit the village. Instead, he came to the town and killed every last one of them.
When Geralt came to White Orchard with Vesemir in May 1272, the innkeeper Elsa, informed the two that the lord was hanged.[2]
Death[]
In early 1272, the Nilfgaardian Army conquered White Orchard in the Third Northern War. Ignatius' family home became known locally as the Nilfgaardian Garrison, as the majority of Nilfgaard's forces in the region became stationed there under the leadership of Captain Peter Saar Gwynleve. The lord was executed by hanging by the new Nilfgaardian rulers.[3]

Claer's diary indicates he killed off Hovel's villagers around 1250 but the map description says it was a few years ago (game is set in 1272). To add to the confusion, villagers will say someone else was in charge before Nilfgaard invaded though Elsa mentions he was hanged when they invaded.
