House of Vellga[N 1] was a family ruling Creyden before the Vermuellens.

History[]

In the first decades of the 13th century, the head of the family was Fredefalk Vellga. While having a daughter named Renfri with his first wife, he was supposedly having an extramarital affair with Aridea, with whom he would eventually marry after Renfri's mother died or left.

Aridea possessed one of Nehalenia's Mirrors which she used to determine the fate of the realm. It informed her that she and a great number of other people would die a horrible death at the hands of Fredefalk's beloved firstborn daughter Renfri, who was incidentally born under the curse of the Black Sun. With this, she informed the Council who sent Stregobor, a mage who firmly believed in the curse, who confirmed the queen's suspicions, and the duchess hired a thug to kill her stepdaughter in the forest, but Renfri managed to kill the thug instead and escape. Over the course of the next four years, Aridea sent numerous assassins after the princess but none of them returned. Some time later she was found dead in the bed, reportedly poisoned by Fredefalk after he found a younger mistress. Fredefalk died shortly later in a strange hunting accident, and his eldest son Jarmagdo disappeared without a word,[1] along with a group of his father's most trusted soldiers.

In 1248, Prince Jarmagdo took a part in a tournament in Wildenberg. While the main prize was the hand of Princess Alya of Vespaden, he attended the event only for glory and planned to resign after the second trial.[2]

In the 1250s, Creyden was conquered by King Niedamir of Caingorn. A short war between him and Esterad Thyssen of Kovir and Poviss followed and afterwards the duchy was ceded to Esterad's daughter Gaudemunda, which might mean that all Vellgas were deceased by that point.[2] Another possibility is that Fredefalk's children with Aridea were considered illegitimate, as according to Renfri they were born back when he was married to his first wife.[1]
