Darn Rowan is a castle fortress and capital of the duchy of Rowan in the hinterlands of Nilfgaard. It is sometimes used to house political prisoners and is situated over the river valley, on hills forested with evergreen yews which contrast with white limestone fault scarps; the castle itself has towers and pinnacles which shine in the light of the morning sun, looking as if they were ablaze.[1]

In July 1267, Emperor Emhyr var Emreis endowed Cirilla Fiona with the title of "Duchess of Rowan and Ymlac" and lady of the castle of Darn Rowan, before sending her there.[2]
