Audoen's father was the last margrave of the East March.

Biography[]

The margrave was loyal to his suzerain, Baldwin Thyssen of Kovir and Poviss, and when the latter faced a rebellion in 1210s he sent Hengforsian retinue to aid. While the core of his army was away, the margrave faced a revolt in his own domain: Caingornese highlanders had declared a local House of Ademeyn nobleman a petty king in Caingorn.

To deal with the increasing amount of problems, the margrave issued a forced conscription the military service in Hengfors city and its immediate surroundings. The cure proved worse than the disease, already moody as their sons and husbands were dying in a fatal war with Rhyd in Poviss, Hengforsian townsfolk reacted to the conscription by storming the palace and throwing the margrave out of a window.[1]

Legacy[]

Immediately after the margrave's death, his faithful men, led by Alan Korber, swore fealty to Audoen and seized Hengfors back in the following months, this time not as a capital of a Kovirian fiefdom, but an independent kingdom of Hengfors and Arcsea.[1] The margrave's grandson Niedamir achieved even greater success and managed to forge the Hengfors League, a federation uniting local duchies and petty kingdoms.[2]
