Please note that we operate a cluster-based approach to test delivery. A cluster is an area that contains a number of delivery locations (test centres), which means that you can be appointed to any of the locations within the cluster you have selected. Job summary

Using your excellent people and customer service skills, you will supervise and assess the driving test. As a Driving Examiner you will meet people from all backgrounds, experience the smiles and celebrations when you confirm a pass, but also need a clear and calm manner to explain your decisions and deliver the disappointing news of a failed test.

Job description

Help everyone stay safe on Britain�s roads with this exciting opportunity to join our team.

You�ll be welcoming candidates and instructors to test centres, working within a tight-knit, diverse team of professionals, all focussed on helping people start a lifetime of safe driving.

Working within a cluster, (please refer to location information above for full details) you�ll carry out car driving tests, build rapport with the test candidate, be professional and tailor your approach to consider any needs they may have.

Person specification

You�ll supervise the test and assess the level of driving displayed by the candidate, ensuring they reach the required standard and will need to accurately complete test reports after the test has finished.

When you�re not carrying out tests, you'll support the Local Driving Test Manager and your colleagues to maintain an effective working environment.

Who are we looking for?

Above all, you�ll be keen to use your driving experience to help new road users achieve the standard they need to pass their test.

We need you to have a reassuring and calm persona � someone who�s able to put nervous and anxious candidates at ease.� Acting with tact and discretion you will need to make timely, justified and sometimes difficult and unpopular decisions.

Working with people from a diverse range of backgrounds we are looking for you to have a flexible approach to working from different locations within a reasonable distance.

We need you to be able to competently use technology - IT equipment and software, e.g., tablets, satnavs.

Essential Criteria

  • Aged 23 or over (a requirement of the 3rd EU Driving Licence Directive - Directive 006/126)
  • You must have held full Category B UK or EU licence continuously for the last 3 years and must have no more than 3 penalty points.
  • Safe & competent driver
  • Experience of delivering high-quality customer service
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively to achieve personal and group objectives.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills

Licences

Aged 23+ (a requirement of the 3rd EU Driving Licence Directive - Directive 006/126)

Held a full manual UK or EU driving licence continuously for the last 3 years

Selection process details

There are several stages to the application and assessment process.��

During your application, you should indicate which cluster you wish to be considered for and, if successful, you will be placed on a merit list of candidates for that location. Job offers in each cluster will made be in merit order from that group.

Stage 1 �� Civil Service Customer Service Test

Following submission of your application you will be invited to complete the Civil Service Customer Service Test.

Please complete the online tests as soon as possible (within 24-48 hrs is recommended), the closing date for the tests is Tuesday 13th June 2023at 11:30am. If you fail to complete the online test before the deadline your application will be withdrawn.

We reserve the right to raise the pass mark at any stage of the process in order to manage numbers.

Applications that meet the minimum standard after the online test will remain on hold until called forward to the next stage of the recruitment process in merit order.

Meeting the minimum requirements for each stage is not a guarantee of an invitation to continue the next stage of the selection process.

Stage 2 � Assessment Day

To become an examiner, you will have to pass an assessment day which will include an interview and driving assessment� (undertaken in a manual car, provided by DVSA).

If you pass shortlisting stage you will be invited to simply select either a morning (arrive at 9.00) am or afternoon slot (arrive at 1.00pm) for attendance at one of the scheduled assessment events listed below:

22nd, 23rd, 24th, 29th, 30th�June and 1st�July � all 6 dates at following five locations: �Aberdeen, Glasgow (Bishopbriggs), Kendal, Leeds, Sheffield.

Please note that some of these dates could be subject to change.�

Further Information

Applicants who are successful at interview will be, as part of pre-employment screening, subject to a check on the Internal Fraud Database (IFD).
