Resolution Games announced today that it is launching Spatial Ops out of beta sometime later this year. The game is currently available to wishlist on the Meta Quest store, where it’ll be available on Quests 2, 3 and Pro. The Stockholm-based VR studio said the launch version will improve on the beta with reduced gametime setup, performance optimization and more enemies and modes.

Spatial Ops touts itself as the world’s first mixed-reality competitive shooter. Players are Spatial Ops agents who can battle either each other or AI-powered bots. The game features multiple PvP modes, including Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Domination and Free-for-All. As a mixed reality title, Spatial Ops converts the player’s existing environment into the battleground.

Tommy Palm, Resolution Games CEO, said in a statement, “Spatial Ops is definitely an enormous innovative step from Resolution Games and over the last couple years of development has turned into one of the most expressive forms of immersive gaming that I have ever seen. We’ve paid attention to every component of this game – from the teleportation being your own natural movement not unlike what you would experience when playing laser tag or paintball to the broader mixed reality component that brings this game to life in your own environment.”

The beta version of the game, which Resolution released in 2022, is still available to download via SideQuest and will remain available until the full game launch. The beta won gold in the Best Innovation and silver in the Best Multiplayer categories for Meta Quest games at the NYX Game Awards.
