Economic Empowerment
The PR & communications industry is female dominated (67%) overall. However, at senior levels it becomes male dominated with only a third of boardroom positions taken by women.
Women in PR exists to address this imbalance. Our mission is to improve equality and diversity across the industry by increasing the number and diversity of women in leadership roles. - https://womeninpr.org.uk/what-we-do/ -

The Cherie Blair Foundation's vision is a world where women have equal opportunities and the capability, confidence and capital necessary to establish and grow businesses, resulting in a brighter future for the women themselves and their communities as a whole.
Women who are financially independent have greater control over their own and their children’s lives. Economic security gives women a more influential voice in tackling injustice and discrimination in their communities and wider society.
Yet women entrepreneurs around the world still lack the business skills, technology, networks and access to finance they need to be successful in the long term. The Foundation provides support in these four key areas so that women can grow their businesses and create employment opportunities. -

1Child 1Book is an initiative of the Tosin Jegede Foundation, and it is registered in Nigeria and the United Kingdom. We work tirelessly to improve literacy in Nigeria. Why do we bother? We work tirelessly to improve literacy in Nigeria. Why do we bother? Because the United Nations put Nigeria at 142 out of 169 countries tested for adult literacy. About 80% of the world’s children live in developing countries like Nigeria.
From our own observation and experience from school visits in Nigeria, we discovered that children from poor backgrounds who do not have access to storybooks and libraries lag behind their peers when it comes to literacy (the ability to read and write). Many of them finish primary school unable to read or write well. They then become adults with very poor literacy skills, unable to compete with their more privileged counterparts. This is why we have decided to work with children in Lagos State’s government primary schools, to start with. We give free storybooks and hold reading sessions. We have done this for four years and seen amazing results. We are also supported by the Lagos State government's SUBEB (State Universal Basic Education Board), who have awarded us for our efforts.
1Child 1Book has donated:
2,330 storybooks to 2,048 in 15 public schools in Lagos and Ekiti
282 books at events to children who meet our beneficiary criteria
4,478 exercise books
3,000 books to secondary schools, prisons and adults
We still have a long way to go:
There are 502,000 primary school children in Lagos state. (Lagos State Ministry of Education 2009/2010 data)
20 children to 1 book ratio currently (observed data)
