Stakeholder Strategies for Designing Better UX: Humane's AI Pin launched earlier this year and... they haven't had the best time with its release. Despite raising £230 million and achieving a £1 billion valuation, the wearable AI device was universally panned upon release. Prominent tech reviewer Marques Brownlee probably put it best: "This device as it exists today is hamstrung by its ideal future version of itself" The culprit behind this poor product? Poor design culture. According to reports, Humane's founders “preferred positivity over criticism”, even dismissing a senior engineer for questioning the product's readiness. This culture of avoiding negative feedback led to critical flaws being overlooked and a product that failed to meet user needs. Having a 9-figure valuation doesn't automatically equal a good product, let alone one that will gain market traction. This cautionary tale highlights the importance of stakeholder strategies for better design. Here are three key approaches that could help most organisations design better UX through stakeholder engagement: The Art of Saying 'No': Creating a culture where constructive criticism is welcomed, not punished. Asking Better Product Discovery Questions: Digging deep to uncover true user needs and pain points. Conducting Pre-Mortems: Anticipating potential failures before they occur (and being allowed to voice those concerns).
