  • Rite to Survive (GGJ 16)

During the Global Game Jam 2016 Coatsink set up their own jam site. A number of people from the studio took part and we split into several small teams to work on different game ideas. The theme for 2016 was ritual.

The idea our team came up with was Rite to Survive where you guide the player through a set of tasks that change as you're forced to break your own ritual. Players are stranded in an apartment block and must perform a series of set tasks, and manage resources to ensure their…

The idea our team came up with was Rite to Survive where you guide the player through a set of tasks that change as you're forced to break your own ritual. Players are stranded in an apartment block and must perform a series of set tasks, and manage resources to ensure their survival, but as you encounter other survivors you're tasked with taking care of them too which requires you break your own ritual.

  • Games Case Project (The Facility)

    -

As part of the final year of my degree I was tasked with working along side 3 fellow students to design and develop a game to a demo-able standard. The result of which was a Co-operative multiplayer game made in Unity where players have to work together in order to escape the facility. “The Convict” navigates the level, but is partially sighted so needs to be guided by “The Viewer”. It is “The Viewers” responsibility to use an array of cameras located throughout The Facility to guide “The…

  • Individual project: Subtle Player navigation

    -

For my Individual Project (Dissertation) I decided to look into player navigation and how players can be guided subtly through a level using a range of subtle navigation techniques. Instead of having waypoints, map markers or camera redirection showing the way forward.

As a result I produced a prototype level that used lighting, colour coding, and audio cues in order to provide player navigation. The level was then tested with a number of participants in order to evaluate the…

  • Skyrim Mod - Scholar's Plight

    -

A group assignment for university that required us to work in a team of 3. We created new locations that where added to the existing game world for the purpose of our quest. The Mod also introduced new characters with their own dialogue, weapons, spells, and introduced a new game mechanic.

  • Games Design - Morph

    -

During the second semester of year 1 we were put into teams to turn one member's concept into a more fleshed out design document. As a team we decided that John's Morph idea would be taken forward and fleshed out with more emphasis on interface, controls, mechanics, level design, story and characters.

While working on Morph's design document I was responsible for designing the interface, controller layout, defining the world setting, and the games background & context.

As part of the Computer Games Design module I was tasked with coming up with an innovative and interesting game concept. After been removed from your current role you have to return to a city that no longer prospers from the rewards offered by pulse energy to uncover who/what caused these unexplainable changes. You have the ability to manipulate the cities pulse energy, providing players with a range of different abilities that can be used in order to over come various challenges and obstacles.
