45% of GHGs can only be tackled by changing the way we make and consume products and food. Our vision is a thriving world in which climate change is no longer a problem. We work around the globe to tackle the causes of the climate crisis and give the planet a sustainable future - in over 50 countries. Our WRAP Around the Globe event brought together all our teams to celebrate what we're achieved over the past 20 years, and to energise ourselves for scaling that work, to give the planet a sustainable future. We shouldn’t waste our natural resources. Everything we use should be re-used and recycled. A third of global GHG emissions comes from the food system. Globally, 25–30% of total food produced is lost or wasted. Our research estimates 10.7 million tonnes of food was wasted in the UK in 2021, 6.4 million tonnes coming from households. To reduce #FoodWaste we need to reduce what is wasted in our homes. We are working from farm to fork to transform the global food system, leading the way in tackling food loss and waste, reducing GHG emissions and water use. Great news, we have a new sponsor for #RecycleWeek. 🎉 Thank you Tesco for sponsoring us! The campaign will run from 14-20 October, focusing on rescuing recyclable items from the rubbish bin when they could’ve been recycled. By recycling at least one extra item as part of our daily recycling routine will make a huge difference! Discover how you can get involved: https://lnkd.in/dQkqzn26

11 million tonnes of plastic enter our oceans every year, yet plastic production is set to double in the next decade. Increasing reuse and refill is vital to reducing pollution, but achieving impactful scale requires collaboration across the entire packaging value chain. Through the #UKPlasticsPact, we facilitate this collaboration. Today we’re launching two new guides to help brands and retailers in their decision making and planning, with tools to identify reuse and refill opportunities in their packaging portfolios. We also have new funding to add reuse and refill stations to our Recycle Locator, encouraging consumer participation and higher return rates. Together, we can make reuse and refill mainstream. What does a ‘Universal Culture of Repair and Re-use' mean in practice? We need your views, ideas, challenges and suggestions on what steps need to be taken by all Welsh residents, businesses and organisations to become a universal culture of repair and re-use. We recognise the urgent need for repair and re-use practices in the face of environmental and resource challenges. Wales is ranked second in the world for recycling, so let’s continue our efforts and set the blueprint globally for repair and re-use. Consultation is now open. Share your opinion: https://lnkd.in/eBACs-7R WRAP will be hosting an online webinar from 14:00-15:00 on Wednesday 31 July to present the routemap consultation. To register: https://lnkd.in/egNxC7Vv

What day we had at the #UKPlasticsPactAnnualSummit2024 last week. We loved seeing the open conversation and active collaboration mentioned continuously throughout the day come to life. Here are a few highlights of the day: ♻️ The Recycle Week 2024 theme “Rescue Me” was announced 🗑️ There were highly engaged roundtables tackling the challenges with flexible packaging with key themes of effective EPR and consumer behaviour ↗️ The Scaling Reuse panel emphasising a need for a new perspective and collaboration across the whole value chain, aspiring to the idea of “reuse cities" 🎥 Eleanor Church Lark Rise Pictures presented the trailer for X Trillion – a documentary which follows 14 women travelling 3000 nautical miles to explore the impacts of plastic in the ocean ✋ The day closed with a Q&A with Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs - a week into our new government, the panelists gave the room a real sense of optimism for what's ahead With over 120 members sharing knowledge and engaging in critical discussion, we’d like to say a huge thank you to all our attendees, speakers and exhibitors for being a part of the day. Without you, the Summit wouldn’t have been as energetic or engaging as it was. We hope you found the day as inspiring and worthwhile as we did. Globally, 25–30% of total food produced is lost or wasted. We are working from farm to fork to transform the global food system, leading the way in tackling food loss and waste, reducing GHG emissions and water use. Reducing food waste is essential for achieving #NetZero. By working with IGD (Institute of Grocery Distribution) and EY, we hope that collaboration across UK food and farming industry on an integrated transition plan will mobilise the UK food system towards net-zero. https://lnkd.in/eigSkdCh

Do you home compost? As well as being beneficial for your garden, #Composting is a great way to make use of your home #FoodWaste. Even if you don't have space for a large compost patch, a plastic box with airholes is all you need. Just remember to open up your teabags before emptying into your compost: https://lnkd.in/ehFJYppN

Flexible plastic packaging represents over 27% of all UK consumer plastic packaging, but only 7% is currently recycled. This is a critical issue that requires urgent action. “The system for handling flexible plastic packaging is failing. It is imperative that we design out unneeded plastic film and address the fundamental economics of recycling the film required through innovation and automation. Doing nothing is not an option," Sebastian Munden, WRAP Chair. Our updated roadmap outlines the critical actions needed across the value chain to move towards a circular economy. It focuses on three key areas: 1. Design 2. Collections & Communications 3. Sorting, Processing & End Markets This roadmap aims to help UK Plastics Pact members accelerate progress towards our targets: 100% of plastic packaging to be reusable, recyclable, or compostable, and 70% of plastic packaging effectively recycled or composted.
