SUSTAINABILITY IN ACTION - Trinec Factory Sustainability in action: reducing scope 1 CO2 emissions by 19 %. Vesuvius manufacturing site case study. Our challenge: Minimise the gas consumption and CO2 emissions per tonne of product produced in the Vesuvius Trinec factory which uses gas-fired kilns and ovens. Solution: To determine the most energy-intense installations, to track each product's energy consumption with a metering system and analytic tools, and eventually, optimise burner settings and kiln load. Outcomes: Total CO2 emissions reduced by 19% per tonne of product produced in 2023, compared to 2021 reference value. Jiri Bozik Technical Manager from Trinec: “The environment matters to me, and I’m looking for the most efficient methods to reduce CO2 emissions. I focus on three things: 1. Measuring and collecting data and shopfloor information on energy consumption for each product family. 2. In-depth analysis of the reasons behind the excessive energy use. 3. Regular review and open discussions with my colleagues - operators. They significantly impact the kiln's and burners' efficiency and involving them in the energy reduction process is crucial. “ Read more about our journey towards net zero in our 2023 Sustainability Report. Sustainability in Action 0.6 Lost time Injuries (LTIFR) per million hours worked. Key elements that have propelled safety improvements at Vesuvius: Targets: We have set a long-term objective to become a zero-accident company, and yearly targets to gradually achieve it. The Group’s 2023 lost time injury frequency rate target was set at <1 per million hours worked. We have outperformed it with 0.6 LTIFR and set ourselves a stretch goal of 0.5 by the end of 2025. Governance: Safety is at the top of the agenda at all our Group Executive Committee and management meetings. All senior managers perform Executive Safety Tours and follow up on improvement requirements. In 2023, they carried out 195 Executive Safety Tours. Leadership: At a Group level, policies and standards are regularly reviewed and refreshed whilst Group safety audits are made against the policies and standards with the close involvement of our site managers. Employee participation in safety leadership: In 2023, on average, 83% of all Vesuvius employees and directly supervised contractors, participated in safety audits every month. We find this to be a key element of our safety performance. Safety Training: We offer our employees more than 40 targeted safety training programmes; a full list of these programmes is on page 136 of our 2023 Sustainability Report. (Link in the comments) Core Safety Rules: We have eight Core Safety Rules that outline our employees’ basic safety responsibilities. These were rolled out across the organisation as the mandated conduct practices. #SustainabilityReport #BetterTommorow #ESG #Safety #casestudy

Today we announced H1 2023 results. “Despite difficult market conditions, especially in the steel sector, we have performed well in the first half of the year, exceeding expectations, thanks, in particular, to a very resilient pricing performance. The Foundry division has confirmed its recovery, which should continue in 2024 when the destocking movement in the Foundry sector will have come to an end. We expect to maintain pricing discipline in the second half of the year, and we are progressing our efforts to gain market share through technological differentiation. As a consequence, noting typical seasonality and despite remaining macro-economic uncertainties, we feel confident to modestly increase our full year expectations.” Patrick Andre Chief Executive https://lnkd.in/d8kjiRZ
