This afternoon UK Sport, the City of London Corporation and the British Embassy Paris held a reception at the Ambassador's residence to bring together Chairs and CEOs from over 25 National Governing Bodies to celebrate the incredible and unique contribution they have made to enabling the extraordinary performances we are seeing from British athletes during this remarkable Olympic Games. We were delighted to be joined by our new Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Lisa Nandy, who was able to collectively meet our Olympic sporting community for the first time as Secretary of State for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, to thank them for their hard work and to celebrate their achievements so far in Paris, which will inspire the next generation of Team GB stars. Our sincere thanks to British Ambassador, Menna Rawlings, and the team at the British Embassy Paris for hosting us and so many other brilliant events during these games, showcasing the best of British. Our huge thanks also to the City of London Corporation for their support in delivering this event. For an athlete to get to the start line at an Olympic Games is the result of many years of hard work, and for every athlete representing GB in Paris their NGB has played a critical part in that journey. The team behind the team provide world class environments for our athletes to enable them to develop their talent and pursue their dreams. Their work is often unsung, it is often unglamorous and it is often incredibly challenging. But the support that NGBs provide to our athletes is the absolute bedrock of British Olympic and Paralympic success and is integral to the achievements that we are seeing here in Paris during these few weeks. So thank you to you all. Here's to more extraordinary performances which unite and inspire the nation over the coming days. 👏

🏊♂️ “We built lifelong relationships and friendships to the extent that we're all still in contact with each other, and that was just as powerful as the sessions that we were part of." Aquatics GB mentor Alan Lynn has hailed communal support in coaching as a “powerful tool” - after building lifelong connections through the Leading to Perform programme. Leading to Perform is one of UK Sport’s development programmes for leaders in the high-performance community, designed to enhance leadership potential within elite sporting roles. Alan believes it is vital for coaches to support each other in their cooperative push for success in the sporting world. This was one of his major takeaways from the Leading to Perform programme, saying: “Leading to Perform was quite simply a transformative experience. “The coaching community really does need to support each other. It's a really powerful tool and, in every single sport, when coaches work together and collaborate with each other as well as with their athletes, it really does make a difference.” Read more about Alan's reflections on our website: https://bit.ly/4c7Rkjk #LeadingtoPerform #SportsBiz #SportsLeadership #Swimming

Today, following Great Britain’s gold medal in the Women’s Quad Sculls, 300 women have won their first medal at a Summer Games (Olympic & Paralympic) since National Lottery funding was introduced in 1997. The 96 years prior to the introduction of the National Lottery funded World Class Programme, which is overseen by UK Sport to provide Britain’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes with world class preparation and support, 336 female athletes had won their first Olympic or Paralympic medals. Our CEO, Sally Munday, said; “Reaching this milestone of 300 British female medallists in the National Lottery era is a moment to celebrate the impact the World Class Programme, which provides equal talent with equal opportunity, has had for women in sport. “There is no doubt that National Lottery funding, alongside government funding, has helped British athletes' perform their very best on the world stage, providing them with the right training environment and facilities, and access to the best support staff and coaches.
