🇫🇷 The #Paris2024 Olympics are officially underway after a thrilling opening ceremony on Friday night Zinedine Zidane, Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams and Lebron James were but a few of the stars to grace the River Seine in the first open-air opening ceremony in Olympic history Senior sports writer Tom Gibbs commented: 'It took a while but what a conclusion. The cauldron-balloon is a beautiful sight and an inspired idea. Fantastical but stately, much like Celine Dion, who (pardon my French) sang la merde out of that song. 'A lot of literal showboating, but as an expression of a complicated and, on this evidence, really quite odd country you could not ask for more from France. A real shame about the weather but with better luck all of that will be overshadowed from tomorrow by glorious sport. It’s always sunny in sport. And if it’s not you can just go inside and watch some volleyball' Read more: https://lnkd.in/emRDgvUF #Paris2024 #olympics

✍️ Guy Kelly writes: They come in various forms, starting with the self-important. ‘In order to be fully present while vacationing, I will not be monitoring my phone.’ Thanks, Gandhi, but you just Instagrammed a photo of your frittata. ‘I am on annual leave.’ Do you work as a submariner on HMS Vanguard? ‘I am currently uncontactable.’ Was your trip booked by SpaceX? ‘Due to cuts in my department and what happened to my deputy, I am enjoying my first time off in two years.’ TMI, mate. Save it for the employee survey. But wait, what did happen to Debbie? If anything, the chirpier ones are worse. ‘Holaaaaaaaa from a lounger in sunny Ibiza baby! I’m horizontal and probably drunk lol but we can synergise when I’m back – if you even recognise me with my tan! Namaste x.’ I wish you non-fatal sunstroke. ‘As I always tell my thought leaders at Shell, life is about balance, giving back, finding your why, being the change you want to see, and shifting your perspective. And that is why I am at the Four Seasons, Seychelles, for a month.’ Is there such a thing as a tsunami dance? Because I’m going to try one. About to go on holiday? Have you crafted an irritating OOO email? Old hand Christopher Howse and young gun Guy Kelly are here to help ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eZw2dS54
