A sharp recovery in global tourism has underpinned a resilient hospitality sector. The resurgence of growth has once again brought sustainability to the fore ➡ http://savi.li/6046lncWq Tourism as a whole is responsible for around 8% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, with transport at the forefront. Real estate can play a role in the solution by: 🟨 Restricting short term rentals in residential homes which may boost professional Extended Stay products such as apart-hotels. 🟨 Consolidation of hotel brands and growth of operators can improve the ability to provide better wages and adapt to seasonal changes in demand and workforce, helping to reduce labour shortages. "When my team and I were tasked with turbocharging the pace of woodland creation on Savills-managed Crown Estate land in June last year, what transpired became the testing ground for the new Woodland Creation Fast Track." Mark Townsend, Forester - Director, explains how this happened in our latest blog post ➡ http://savi.li/6048lVquK A legacy of the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, The Crown Estate is undertaking its largest afforestation project in decades – initially aiming to create 400ha of new mixed-use, biodiverse and resilient woodlands across its portfolio of estates in England. The Savills Rural forestry team's role focused on five of those estates, with the somewhat daunting challenge of planting at least 120ha in the first year of the project. #Forestry #WoodlandCreation

Harriet Hemmings, Rural Surveyor for the estate management team in Chelmsford, has been selected as one of 12 jockeys to take part in the Markel Magnolia Cup at Goodwood racecourse on 1 August. The annual race has previously raised money for several good causes – and this year Hattie will be riding for My Sisters’ House, which provides support and services to women in crisis including those suffering domestic violence. Although an experienced rider, training for the Magnolia Cup has been a huge personal challenge, Hattie says. She broke her back in a serious car accident in 2019 and only after months of grueling rehabilitation did she teach herself to walk again. “Once the doctors said I’d be able to walk, all I wanted to know was if I would be able to ride. They would just reiterate how high risk the sport was – but there’s no stopping an equestrian doing what they love." "The training for the Magnolia Cup has been a steep learning curve – replicating that of a professional jockey. I’ve been going to the gym three or four times a week and having regular fitness tests." "The level of fitness required has been life changing. My body was weak, still years after the accident. But I’m now able to better hold myself up having built muscles in my core, back and legs." To sponsor Hattie visit her JustGiving page: http://savi.li/6046lpvkK
