The cost of conflict is the void that can never be filled. #GoodAdsMatter In March of this year, Syria marked the grim 13th anniversary of a war that has stolen over 5,07,000 lives, left 11.5% of the population deceased or injured, and displaced 45% of Syrians—6.36 million internally and 4.8 million abroad—making it one of the greatest humanitarian disasters of our time. The Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD) launched the "Lost Family Portraits" campaign in 2016 to remember the same. More than a series of photographs, it is a powerful testament to lives torn apart by war. Each photograph features empty chairs or spaces in a family portrait, haunting symbols of missing family members, reminding us of the profound destruction war inflicts on families. The campaign continues to highlight the harsh realities faced by millions of refugees still stranded in Lebanon, unable to afford passage to Europe and with no home to return to, caught in an excruciatingly painful limbo. It calls for global awareness and compassion, serving as a stark reminder of the human cost of conflict and a plea for a brighter, more hopeful future for all those affected by this ongoing tragedy.
