Research shows that women often find it harder to #sayno than men and may face more negative consequences when they do. The usual well-meaning advice for women to be "more assertive" misses the mark. Successfully navigating the art of saying no is about reading your audience and understanding their #goals, so you can provide guidance without overcommitting. It’s about strategic #communication that respects both your boundaries and the needs of others. It's crucial to understand why so many of us, regardless of gender, feel such a strong urge to say yes. Why do we find it so hard to say no? And are there any real, tangible benefits of saying no? Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/etca6jsD #ElevateTalent #ElevateMe

🔸 Answer from Elevate's Founder, Jacqueline Frost: Absolutely. This is an example of the ’No… but’ approach of telling someone ‘no’. As with any strategy, there are nuances to strengthen it. Some people do not like the word ‘can't’ and so I advise clients to use alternatives where possible. For instance, saying 'I won't be able to do this right now’ would be even better. Then adding a positive follow up ‘but I will be able to do it later’ requires an understanding of your audience. The aim of the four approaches to saying ‘no’, shared in the Elevate session Atomic Energy, is to minimise pushback. You want the other person to accept your no, respect your response, and leave satisfied. The question here is whether the other person will be happy with a vague ‘later’. To avoid being overly specific and complicating things for yourself, a slight improvement is to say, 'but I should be able to get to it later.' Years ago, a junior female colleague asked me how I speak so that people accept and respect what I say. I would love to claim I had a 100% hit rate. I didn't. I practiced. I observed what worked with different people and refined my approach. I made mistakes and faced pushback, even when I thought I had nailed it. Remember the key is to reduce pushback, not eliminate it entirely. #ElevateTalent #ElevateMe #BurningQuestions

We love this summary by Jaynee Parekh on our latest webinar - Atomic Energy! Glad that you enjoyed the session!!
Recently, I had the privilege of attending an “Elevate Talent” session and it was nothing short of transformative. The session opened my eyes to the profound impact that mastering the art of saying "NO" can have on our emotional energy and overall well-being. It’s a skill that many of us struggle with, often leading to stress, burnout, and strained relationships. However, this session demonstrated that there are indeed artistic and effective ways to decline requests without causing misunderstandings, damaging relationships, or creating negative repercussions. Key Takeaways from the Session 1. The Power of Clarity: Be clear and concise when saying ‘NO’. A well-articulated response leaves little room for misinterpretation and ensures that our intentions are understood. 2. Empathy and Respect: Saying "NO" doesn't mean disregarding others' feelings. By showing empathy and respect in our responses, we can maintain positive relationships. Focus on how to express gratitude and understanding while still standing firm on our decision. 3. Alternatives and Solutions: Rather than a flat rejection, offering alternatives or suggesting solutions can soften the impact of a "NO." This approach not only demonstrates our willingness to help but also keeps the door open for future collaboration. 4. Emotional Energy Management: One of the most enlightening aspects of the session was understanding how frequently saying "YES" to everything can drain our emotional energy. By setting healthy boundaries and prioritizing our commitments, we can preserve our energy for what truly matters. I want to extend my deepest gratitude to Jacqueline Frost Frost for her incredible insights and practical strategies. Her ability to equip us with these key skills is invaluable, and her demonstration of how to artfully say "NO" was a revelation. The session has undoubtedly empowered me and many others to handle our professional and personal interactions more effectively. By incorporating these techniques into our daily lives, we can enhance our productivity, well-being, and relationships. Thanks to Jacqueline and ‘Elevate Talent’ team, we are now better equipped to navigate conversations with confidence and grace.
