Fresh from graduating from the University of Liverpool with a degree in Psychology in 2019, Tia-Ama joined Vyde as an Account Executive (& employee number 1), hoping to put their interests in human behaviour, analytics and creativity to good use. 5 years on, Tia-Ama leads the creative department there and is a key member of the business. It's easily the most satisfying part of my job to see the grads that we worked with when they were starting their professional careers make such big impacts at the companies we matched them to. I loved catching up with Tia-Ama to find out about: - career progression & how their role has evolved - the key moments and decisions they made along the way - what’s made them stick around for so long - and LOADS of advice for newbies starting out on their career journey If you find this useful, then someone else will too so please give it a like! 👍 Congrats Tia-Ama, you are a ⭐️ --- University of Liverpool, Media For All [MEFA], Vyde, Tia-Ama Amihyia, Sam Peters

I need to call my therapist... ...or maybe my manager? We’ve been asking recent BrighterBox grads if they would feel comfortable discussing their mental health concerns with their manager. Over half said they would. I’m sure if this question was asked 10, even 5 years ago, the % would’ve been a lot lower. This openness of Gen Z in the workplace should be celebrated as it helps: 🎙️Reduce stigma and normalise conversations around mental health. 🤝Encourages an inclusive work environment. 🌟Allows managers to offer tailored support. Whilst it’s great that the majority of Gen Z feel comfortable discussing their mental health concerns with their manager, it raises the question of whether managers should be handling such discussions, as most lack the specialist training required. How comfortable would you feel discussing your mental health concerns with your manager? And if you are a manager/founder/in a senior position, how comfortable would you feel dealing with your employees’ mental health concerns?

"Gen Z, also known as "Generation Sicknote", are work-shy snowflakes." Yawn! 😴 This is an incorrect (and boring!) view used to criticise Gen Z, particularly surrounding the conversation about mental health-induced absences. Mental health issues can affect all of us at some point in our lives, not just Gen Z. But Gen Z are in the midst of a mental health crisis right now and we need to talk about it. Poor mental health costs UK employers over £50 billion a year, with presenteeism (i.e. reduced productivity at work due to illness) accounting for the largest proportion of this. Designating time off for mental health recovery, similar to physical health leave, can enhance employee well-being and productivity. But, many companies remain reluctant to implement such a policy due to a variety of factors. A cold or a broken limb is easy to spot, but poor mental health is often less visible, so monitoring the legitimacy of mental health day requests is a challenge which may be putting companies off. However, paid mental health days can help: 🧘 Reduce burnout at work 🤝 Decrease absenteeism in staff 🎙️ Reduce the stigma around mental health issues Out of the 2,000 grads we quizzed about paid mental health leave: 😁 60% thought companies should offer it. 🤔 39% didn't mind either way. 👎 1% thought businesses shouldn't offer it. What are your thoughts on companies offering paid mental health leave? The conversation seems to always revolve around employees wanting more flexibility (a nice-to-have), with conversations around mental health (a genuine need) being kicked down the road. I think employers might be missing a trick here. Would an employer that was attuned to the mental health needs of its employees make you more likely to join that company? #mentalhealthatwork #paidmentalhealtheave #GenZ #wednesdaywellness

With the pressures of social media, a pandemic, Brexit, and the housing/cost of living crisis it’s no wonder Gen Z have worse mental health than previous generations. We are seeing them want and need more from their workplace to help support their mental well-being, and companies offering such benefits are more likely to attract Gen Z talent. Paid mental health days, incorporating regular wellness activities, and outsourcing the help of companies such as those listed below are all ways employers can offer support! Spill 🫗- Provides mental health support to employees through Slack/Teams InsideOut® - Empowers employees to look after their mental wellbeing pirkx 🧘- Offers affordable wellbeing benefits for all Clementine 🍊- Daily care for your mind MindLabs 🧪 - A live mental health platform focused on sleep and meditation Oliva💜 - Employee mental wellbeing platform VISTA - Redefining Corporate Wellbeing 🍃 - Helps organisations support staff wellbeing MyMynd 🧠 - Empowers wellbeing for people and organisations YuLife 🦒 - Offers a combination of insurance and employee wellbeing benefits Would wellness perks make you more likely to join a company?🌟
