This World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, I'd like to reflect on the dedication of our people at Ashurst in their work to combat modern slavery in all its forms. Over the past year, our team’s work with survivors has included: - Launching a mentoring program in East Asia, led by Helena Yeaman, in collaboration with the Starfish Project. Ashurst provided Mandarin-speaking mentors from our APAC region to help teach Business English skills to survivors of people trafficking. - Working with the Sophie Hayes Foundation to launch a work shadow scheme for six survivors of human trafficking and modern-day slavery, helping them gain essential skills, office experience, and self-confidence. Supporting Migrant Help's LEAP (Lived Experience Advisory Panel) with mentors. Our Founder, William Henry Ashurst, and his daughters were deeply committed to the abolition of slavery – and more than 200 years later we seek to continue to honour that legacy, fighting against modern slavery and people trafficking. It’s a global focus for the firm, from commercial and pro-bono anti-slavery work, through to direct action that support survivors through impactful projects and initiatives. Thank you, in particular, Sarah Morton-Ramwell, Helena Yeaman and Rebecca Greenhalgh for leading our work in this important area and to all at Ashurst worldwide who make a difference.
