Ryan Murphy has indeed created a Monster at Netflix. [pmc_inline_gallery]
Following the breakout success of Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, the streamer has ordered two additional installments of the serial killer-tinged anthology series. Netflix is not revealing which real-life villains will anchor Seasons 2 and 3, beyond saying that they will be “monstrous figures who have impacted society.”
Additionally, Netflix has also renewed Murphy’s creepy suburban thriller The Watcher for Season 2. It remains unclear if the show’s sophomore run will be a continuation of the Season 1 story or, like, Monster, feature an entirely new ensemble/storyline.
“Audiences can’t take their eyes off Monster and The Watcher,” Bela Bajaria, Head of Global TV at Netflix, said in a statement accompanying Monday’s renewal announcements. “The creative team of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan on Monster along with Eric Newman on The Watcher are masterful storytellers who captivated audiences all over the world. The back-to-back force of these two series is due to Ryan’s distinct original voice which created cultural sensations and we are thrilled to continue telling stories in the Monster and Watcher universes.”
Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which launched on Sept. 21, quickly emerged as Murphy’s biggest (and arguably most controversial) Netflix hit. According to the streamer’s numbers crunchers, the inaugural 10-episode season has garnered over 934 million “view hours” (as of Nov. 1). It currently ranks as Netflix’s second most popular English TV season ever, after Stranger Things Season 4.
The Watcher doesn’t need a second season.
Actually, it didn’t need a first. Most confusing thing I have ever watched, and there is no ending.
When Dahmer’s Monster introduced John Wayne Gacy, I could tell they were testing the waters for an anthology series. Netflix would definitely want another anthology season if the ratings were good on the original.
As far as The Watcher, I have no clue what another Season would be, being that it seemed to end like the true story and nothing has came out new about the true story to add. It would be strange to now continue the story in fiction territory or create a brand new story from scratch. Unless they found another similar real-life story for Season 2.
I would be surprised if the next Monster installment is not John Wayne Gacy
I mean, what more are they going to have them do on The Watcher? Actually have them go down the tunnel and see who was on the other side? Set up multiple video cameras all over the house to finally catch the watcher in action? Continually watch the owners of the new house so the Brannocks are now “Watchers”? I just felt like it was overly long and bloated to begin with so a S2 of TW is completely unnecessary.
Monster season 2 could be Charles Manson. Season 3 could be Donald Trump
HEY HEY, Low shot. I mean he’s a monster but to put the 2 together like that is just mean. Manson is not nearly as bad as Trump.
Look in the mirror dum(b) Mike and lefti(e) Scott. Two sad fellows hyping the real monster Biden.
Trump is coming back for 2024!
Trump is just like Frankenstein’s monster. The suffering townspeople couldn’t get rid of that horrible creature. Unfortunately, we’re in the same boat today.
I am hyping DeSantis. Trump had his time and failed. It’s time for a younger sexier republican. But Trump can always join The Lemon Party if he feels left out.
Monster season 2 must be John Wayne Gacy, then the 3rd could be Ed Gein, tying it All together.
Monster nailed that Gacy casting, if the want to go in that direction.
Though unclear if he intended on a 2nd Monster season, Murphy loves hinting at the next season in AHS so if he did the same here, Gacy and Ed Gein…netflix may also want to tie in with there conversations with a killer series, which also includes Bundy. i just hope its better than his follow ups to Crime Story.
Maybe Jack the Ripper. I wonder if the crew can do “Victorian” for a change of scenery? I’d eat it up.
Ugh… and that wonderful Mind Hunter show got cancelled while these psychos roam loose…
Still hasn’t been cancelled yet. Granted it a long shot, but hold onto the hope for season 3.
This is so gross. All you people are sickos
Thank you, retraumatizing the victims family, friends, and loved one is apparently too lucrative to show some empathy… This obsession and glorification of serial killers is really troubling
I’d rather have season 3 of Mindhunter.
totally agree!
Rather have had a Season 3 of Fate the Winx Saga over another 2 seasons of this. Sorry but these characters, serial killers have been done to death in film docu series and TV. There is nothing new about the story or the people they kill.
I couldn’t get into either show.
