When HBO CEO and Chairman Casey Bloys laid out the 2024 slate for HBO and Max on Thursday morning, a few biggies were absent from that particular conversation.
As reported by TVLine, Hacks, Tokyo Voice and Curb Your Enthusiasm are but a few of the returning HBO and Max favorites penciled in for the first half of 2024, while House of the Dragon Season 2 could arrive as soon as early summer.
Emmy darlings The White Lotus and The Last of Us, meanwhile, are among a group of HBO programs that, due to the recently settled WGA and ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes (and/or other factors), won’t return to your screens until 2025.
All told, Bloys confirmed on Thursday that The White Lotus’ third season won’t arrive until 2025, as will Season 2 of The Last of Us and Season 3 of teen drama Euphoria (the delay of which had previously been hinted at earlier this year).
The Last of Us, Bloys noted, would have been filming by now were it not for the actors’ strike; instead, the hope is to get cameras rolling on the hit video game adaptation in “early 2024.”
Also slotted for 2025 is Max’s It prequel series Welcome to Derry.
Meanwhile, And Just Like That…, which was renewed for Season 3 in August, only recently opened its writers room, upon resolution of the WGA strike.

Euphoria kids and Ellie from Last of us are going to be grown ups with kids by the time these shows return.
Ellie is a young adult in the Last Of Us Part II video game, so this delay is actually to the show’s benefit.
Given the unevenness of Euphoria season 2 and the awfulness of Levinson’s last show, why not just wrap up with a two hour movie sometime in 2024? Going three years between seasons, particularly for a show set in high school, seems absurd. The actors will all be pushing 30 by then.
So basically I’m canceling HBO until 2025?

Thanks! Hope it gets renewed for S3!
