Maxine Delacorte-Simmons isn’t done ruffling feathers in Palm Beach, now that Apple TV+ has renewed Palm Royale for Season 2.
The pickup comes one month after the Kristen Wiig comedy’s Season 1 finale, which was released on May 8.
“We are so thrilled to hear about Season 2,” series star/executive producer Laura Dern said in a statement Thursday. “[Fellow executive producer] Jayme [Lemons] and I (with Jaywalker Pictures) have been dreaming up this project for so long in hopes that audiences would have delicious fun with the radical ride that is the world of Palm Royale. We all can’t wait to get started!”
Adds Apple TV+ head of programming Matt Cherniss: “Palm Royale has delighted global audiences and we are thrilled that viewers will have the opportunity to spend more time with this highly entertaining, iconic cast, from Kristen Wiig to the incomparable Carol Burnett. We can’t wait for everyone to experience the next brilliantly witty chapter in the lives of the Palm Beach high society set that [showrunner] Abe Sylvia, Kristen, Laura Dern and this incredible team behind the show have brought so vibrantly to life.”
Set in high society Palm Beach in 1969, Palm Royale is “a true underdog story that follows Maxine (Wiig) as she endeavors to break into Palm Beach high society,” according to the official logline. “As Maxine attempts to cross that impermeable line between the haves and the have-nots, Palm Royale asks the same question that still baffles us today: ‘How much of yourself are you willing to sacrifice to get what someone else has?'”
Wiig leads an all-star ensemble that includes the aforementioned Dern and Burnett, as well as Allison Janney (Mom), Ricky Martin (The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story), Josh Lucas (Yellowstone), Leslie Bibb (Popular), Amber Chardae Robinson (Loot), Mindy Cohn (The Facts of Life), Julia Duffy (Newhart) and Kaia Gerber (American Horror Story) and Bruce Dern (Nebraska).
The series’ three-episode launch earned an average reader grade of “A-.”
Yes Yes Yes! I love this show.
What?! Don’t get me wrong. I’m thrilled and will watch just as I did this season. The cast, costumes and sets were over the top amazing. Everyone involved (except the writers maybe), did their very best. But I don’t get a season two renewal. There wasn’t enough story for this season let alone a second. Maybe they’ll add characters (and more writers) to make it more interesting?
The executives at AppleTV must know more than some random person on the internet. Just saying.
All I know is that Ricky Martin better be back!
I liked the show despite the fact that yes, big chunks of it were a hot mess. It’s thisclose to clicking and hopefully the writers/producers can focus their focus and land it in season 2.
More Evelyn Rollins, please!
Great news.. funny stories and entertaining with brilliant actors..
Happy news
Any word on new look?
*insert Wiig’s Target lady being excited here*
I sure hope Ricky Martin’s character survived 😱
Still, stacked cast and looking forward to more time with them!
Yes yes yes yes!!! How can you NOT renew a show with such a FANTASTIC cast!?’
