Archer‘s globetrotting adventures aren’t done after all: FXX has ordered a new three-part finale for the animated spy comedy, just two days after what was billed as its series finale. The new finale, titled Archer: Into the Cold, will air Sunday, Dec. 17 at 10/9c on FX as well as FXX, and will stream the next day on Hulu.
The news was announced at the Archer panel at New York Comic Con on Friday, which had teased “a very special announcement” to come.
Archer, with H. Jon Benjamin voicing the titular spy, aired for a total of 14 seasons, debuting on FX in 2009 and then moving to FXX in 2017. The voice cast also included Aisha Tyler as Lana, Chris Parnell as Cyril, Judy Greer as Cheryl, series creator Adam Reed as Ray, Amber Nash as Pam and Lucky Yates as Dr. Krieger. Jessica Walter voiced the role of Archer’s mother Malory until her death in 2021.
Wednesday’s “series finale” ended with the spy agency getting the news that the UN had declared all private spy agencies illegal and ordering them shut down within 30 days. (Read our full recap here.)

Good! I watched the “series finale” and thought “that’s it? No closure at all? Where was Kreiger?” Glad we are getting a proper end to a great story.
Kreiger was in the group office scenes but didn’t say anything! It was so odd.
I was watching the series finale, caught the bit about there being a NYCC announcement later that week, and immediately figured they were going to announce a theatrical film. I was a bit off in the scale, but essentially called it right. I mean, the series finale would air just a few days before the announcement. What, besides, “Surprise, we just signed for a 15th season,” were they likely to announce at that point?
This is awesome!!!
They can’t just give them an 8 episode season 15? Whatever. Anything is better than what we got. These episodes have to be already made right? You can’t make most cartoons, besides South Park, in a couple months.
I wonder if spy agencies will live on… or if Archer will live by the end of it.
I feel like this is a property that might come out with hour long, or even full tv movie length specials, every couple of years. The cast and crew love making it, so I don’t think they’ll walk away.
Awesome! I used to love this show but lost interest once it started deviating from the typical setting (drug run, theme seasons), and was bummed to read how it ended. Now that there’s a chance for a proper finale, I’m definitely going to try and give the series another go.
Come back for sure. Once the old showrunner left the show started getting back on it’s feet. It’s ending on a high note.
I don’t think anyone actually believed that “finale” was where they were going to end things. To be honest, I think Sterling Archer will die in the true final story. They’ve been going on and on this year about how old and broken he is. I think they’re going to have him die heroically. Not saying this special is the end. Just saying, I don’t Archer getting to retire and live happily ever after.
That’s great news!!! Those final moments of that supposed “finale” felt like a setup to a much more bonkers “real finale”, especially now that they only have 30 days to dismantle the agency.
Or kill the UN :)
I am so glad they are getting a better sendoff. It was such a filler type episode.
Yes I can’t wait for December to watch.but it still sucks that they won’t be bringing it back for more seasons .I have watched the show from the beginning .I loved it it’s a shame they keep stupid shows on and get rid of ones that you love to see i faithfully couldn’t wait for every week
I hate that it’s over!!!! I love Archer
Great news!!
I really think that there should be an Archer live action movie. I have some ideas for the cast.
Archer – Will Farrell
Pam – Melissa McCarthy
Cyril – Johnny Galecki
Ray – Jim Parsons
Cheryl – Caley Cuoco
Krieger – John Lithgow
Still trying to find who would be god for Lana and Zara.
If the intent was to go full parody, definitely could see some of these.
.
Honestly, if this was 10yrs ago, I’d say stick with the voice-over cast since their likenesses were more or less what was used for their characters. The only replacement would probably be Archer himself, sorry H. Jon Benjamin (that voice could be Archer or Bob’s Burgers, as was done a season or 2 ago), you need someone who could pull off the good looks and charisma = Jon Hamm would be my vote.
Ferrell only knows how to yell. I’d rather watch someone dressed head-to-toe in stage black carry around a cardboard standee of Archer.
I prefer the show not to end but I am glad we are getting a real proper ending. Let’s ride on in to the Danger Zone one last time!
I’m Splooshing Thrillled! Easily my favorite show of the last 10 years.
Cool!
