The wait for new episodes of 9-1-1: Lone Star just got a lot longer.
Season 5 of the Fox procedural has been pushed back to fall 2024, TVLine has confirmed. It was expected to return this spring along with many other network TV shows after the dual Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strikes were resolved. Instead, it will now wait until next fall, when it will return for a 12-episode fifth season.
Fox and producers 20th Television were originally discussing a 18-episode order, our sister site Deadline reports, with six episodes at midseason and another 12 next fall. But with the SAG-AFTRA strike only just ending last week, plans changed, and the decision was made to hold Season 5 until the 2024-25 TV season. (A source tells TVLine that the economics of a full season just wouldn’t work, even for a successful show like this.)
9-1-1: Lone Star stars Rob Lowe as firefighter captain Owen Strand, with Ronen Rubinstein as paramedic T.K. Strand and Sierra McClain as 9-1-1 operator Grace Ryder. The supporting cast includes Jim Parrack, Natacha Karam, Brian Michael Smith, Rafael L. Silva, Julian Works, Gina Torres, Brianna Baker and Kelsey and Skyler Yates.
Fox renewed Lone Star for a fifth season in May, with it averaging 5.9 million total viewers and a 0.8 demo rating (with Live+7 playback). it ranked second for the season among all Fox dramas behind only the original 9-1-1, which has moved to ABC for its upcoming seventh season.

What is wrong with you FOX?
I wouldn’t be shocked if the shows ends up on ABC. With the way Fox are treating the show they probably want to cancel because of “cost”. I think there’s several more years of life left in Lone Star, it just won’t be on Fox.
The same thing that’s always been wrong with it — they don’t know a good thing when they see it.
Aw bummer we have to wait a year (and since it’s the only 911 show on FOX now why not give it a full 22?)
It’s expensive and they literally just said they don’t have the money to waste …
I don’t understand if they were talking about 18 episodes why not make the episodes? How did the ‘economics’ change?
Rob Lowe might quit the show by next fall. ;)
They were talking 6 +12. That was weeks earlier when they were expecting an earlier end of the strike. According to the linked article, this show needs a lot of pre- and post-production due to its extensive effects (and surely its many elaborate on location shoots) so getting 6 in the can for midseason might not be realistic. And advertising less than 6 might not be worth the marketing costs. There might not be enough space on the schedule to accomodate the show.
Commissioning 18 for a single season is too expensive for both parties. It is expensive for Fox, plus Disney might not want to produce more than 12 for a season, due to producing them at a loss. They have generate profits via international sales and streaming deals and a 12 episode run might be more fitting to that model. Gotta look at scheduling all the workers and actors with their other projects, too.
But yeah, at least adding like 2-3 episodes, due to the extra time would have been good. :/
Agreed, Love this show and the cast!!
That sucks. But then, it’s FOX. Hopefully, Fox will rerun the previous season to keep the characters and ongoing storylines fresh in our memories.
Unlikey , will need the room to air n cancel shows before the fall for new shows and. Returning that are gonna be held , this won’t be the only show to be held till then
I’m just very disappointed Lonestar will not be on until fall of 2024.
By then everyone will have forgotten about this show and won’t be watching it.
In this super fragmented market landscape, yeah, this is a mistake. Remember the ratings already took a nosedive (and streaming didn’t bounce back much) when Fox experimented with moving Lone Star to a different night. Now double that with the shows being on different networks and alone Star sitting out the spring. Keeping it off the air this long is a huge mistake.
The only problem with that is that half of the audience will move on.
We’re talking like a year and however many months since it will have last been on TV?? And only TWELVE episodes??
I remember when TV shows ran consecutively, every week, for 9 months out of the year–taking summers off, and then restarting again in the Fall! THAT was a regular TV SEASON.
I am wahcing some old series on streamng with episodes numbering from 18-24
doesn’t happen like that anymore
There was a time when 26 episodes a year was normal. Then it dropped down over a period of time to 22 episodes a year. 12 episodes for a season is pathetic IMHO.
Star Trek TOS had 36 episodes. All TV Series did before the mid 1970’s. Then in was 28. Then 26. Then 24. Today on Broadcast it averages 20-22 Episodes. But for streaming it’s 10-13 Episodes.
Not good, will lose a lot of viewers with that long of delay!
That is way too long, to wait for a show like this great show.
Please schedule it earlier. Also more espiodes.
We wait too long and Rob Lowes and the other cast might leave. What are you planning to do, put another talk show or game show in it’s place?
This absolutely sucks! I love this show, Fox is crazy for keeping it out so long. A year plus how long it’s already been is a long time for people to stay interested. I will wait, but I won ‘t be happy about it! Ridiculous.
That;s way too long for a show I’ve been waiting for for what seems forever! This smells of something due to the fault of Rob Lowe. Love him, but like some people have said, a lot of us will have forgotten, or changed watching habits by that time. Don’t be so sure of your audience, Fox! February seems long enough to wait, and my TV habits seem to be changing already as it is. I don’t care to go with streaming, and for now, still have basic cable. If the basic networks keep messing with the programming, I may as well join so many others and drop cable completely.
Don’t much care anymore. I’m supportive of the strike i.e. fair wages, but I’m no longer interested in any of the series I was following. Have gone to the other side and watch BBC, UK, Australian and New Zealand series. Much better quality t.v.
This is disappointing. One of only a few of the network scripted shows I still watch, and definitely the strongest. Looks like I won’t be watching Fox for another full year.
Yes bring it back in December reruns my family enjoy it give us something like 911 did .
Fifth and final season. I’m calling it.
ABC to swoop in and pair it with the mothership 9-1-1 series. For the 2024-25 season. Calling it. 😄
I’d love to see this.
Please don’t make us wait so long!!!
I love 911 Lonestar and Rob Lowe.
I was looking forward to this. Miss all my favorite people!
What is Fox going to air in Lonestar’s place this season? Another season of The Masked Singer? A foreign show? The return of So You Think You Can Dance? I hope we see the Lonestar cast in a Simpsons episode this season
It has a whole slate of tv both fall n midrason to squeeze in one slot , of course things are getting held
They didn’t have to push out Lone Star.
Postponed until next Fall 2024! WTF! That’s way too long. Fox Entertainment, you now have A LOT OF PISSED OFF FANS 😤 TREAD CAREFULLY.
From the very beginning (can you say Alien Nation?) Fox has repeatedly shown that it doesn’t care about the opinions of fans.
GO SQUARE TO HELL FOX. Not happy at all. 😡
Better than it being cancelled tbh, I rather just wait.
I think I understand. Elaborate location stunts probably require booking sites months in advance. It’s likely a logistical nightmare to try to ready things so fast. But I do fear that the show’s audience will disappear.
So disappointed with delay and then a short fall season.
I’m very upset to hear that I have to wait until fall next year for 911: Lone Star to return. I have been binge watching the previous seasons on Hulu. Fox needs to do better.
I’m just glad 9 1 1 Lone Star coming back. Not really fond of the regular 911. I’d love to see more episodes, but will take what is given.
I loved this show. So disappointed it not coming back till end of 2024. L oved v Rob lowe and cast. Brilliant show. Hurry back.
NOT FAIR TO MAKE US WAIT SO LONG!!!!!!
