Jake Gyllenhaal: Presumed Innocent Episode 6 Shocker Has Left Rusty in ‘An Impossible Position’

With its antepenultimate episode, Apple TV+’s Presumed Innocent series this Wednesday took another sharp turn from both the 1987 Scott Turow novel and the 1990 Harrison Ford movie, when accused murder Rusty Sabich’s defense attorney suffered a heart attack not far into the trial.
Rusty’s onetime boss, ousted DA Raymond Horgan, was doing his best to delicately cross-examine the late Carolyn Polhemus’ young son, Michael, when mid-sentence he tensed up, froze, and then slumped to the courtroom floor.
What happens now? Will Raymond’s second chair, untested Mya, take over the case? Will a mistrial be declared, in the wake of Rusty heroically rushing to Raymond’s side to administer CPR? Or could Rusty perhaps represent himself?
Speaking with TVLine, series lead Jake Gyllenhaal aacknowledged there was little he could divulge about how — or if — the case against Rusty will resume.
“Rusty finds himself in a very different if not impossible position” after Raymond’s cardiac event, Gyllenhaal shared. “And how it resolves itself…. That’s really what [Episodes] 6 and 7 is about, how he is, for lack of a better word, completely tried, and exhausted, and has only basically two options” for moving forward.

So far I am not enjoying this remake anywhere near as the original movie. I read the book & unlike many book to movie adaptations, it was true to the book. The book & movie had far more potential murderers than this miniseries because they exposed who Carolyn was. The judge in the movie was played by Paul Winfield & he was brilliant. Ray Horgan was played by Brian Dennehy (forgive any misspelling) also brilliantly.
IMO, this ministries, in not following the book, is not building tension as well as the movie & book.
Rusty takes over his own defense because, why not get completely ridiculous?

Don’t remember the movie or the book at all, so I am enjoying the series. I’m looking forward to the conclusion.
It has to be Tommy that killed her. However that could be a red herring. I do not think Rusty killed her.
I think the medical examiner, Mr Kumagai is the killer of Carolyn. He was was attracted to Carolyn and was stalking her. Kumagai was the guy at work who Carolyn complained to her son about. Kumagai found out about Rusty and Carolyn and followed him to Carolyn’s house. Kumagai tried to suppress any of his DNA found at the scene, But he made a mistake and his DNA shows up in an investigation by Mya, Rusty’s lawyer. Mya saves the day for Rusty,
