A word of warning to Night Court‘s Dan Fielding: You’re going to spending a lot more time with Julianne in Season 3.
Sitcom veteran Wendie Malick, who has guest-starred in the previous two seasons of NBC‘s courtroom comedy, is joining the cast as a series regular in Season 3, TVLine has learned. She’ll reprise her role as Dan’s terrifying ex Julianne Walters, who will now be the court’s new prosecutor, replacing India de Beaufort’s Olivia. (de Beaufort announced her exit from the series in May.)
“A reformed convict and former love interest of Dan Fielding, Julianne is Night Court’s new prosecutor,” per the official synopsis. “A sophisticated, savvy woman and accomplished attorney who also knows how to make a shank out of a spoon, she’ll keep everyone in the courthouse on their toes.”
Malick appeared in two episodes of Night Court as Julianne in the comedy’s first two seasons. She’s been a familiar face to TV fans for the past three decades, with memorable stints on Just Shoot Me!, Dream On and Hot in Cleveland. Her recent TV credits include Young Sheldon, Physical, Shrinking and Billions.
Season 3 of Night Court premieres Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 8:30/7:30c, following new comedy St. Denis Medical. (Click here to get all of NBC’s fall premiere dates.)

I’ll tune in for this. I love WM.
Thought season 2 was an improvement, and looking forward to season 3.
Season 2 improved? I tried watching season 1 and bailed after 4 eps. With this casting I might have to give it another chance.
S2 is a big improvement over s1 due to casting changes and new cast. They got rid of Neil (?) the clerk who crushed on the DA. The new clerk is written funnier and it works better. They also added improv specialist Gary Anthony Williams as a temp clerk, and he’s been fun to watch. They also toned down Abby’s zany-every-second schtick significantly. They still have work to do – Gerg needs better writing and more integration with other cast, for example – but adding Wendy as the new DA is going to be huge, because I think the writers will be inspired by her, so everyone benefits.
Gerg needs another bailiff to play off of like the original series. She needs her Selma, Flo, Roz like Bull had.
Well and also season 2 when Wendy malick guest starred it was centered around a Star Trek convention so they dug deep into John laroquttes past when he played a Klingon in the search for Spock
Huzzah!! That is great news. She is so fun to watch and I cannot wait to see her and Dan sparring.
A huge casting coup for Night Court, and I’ll be happy to see Wendy Malick every week. Great news!
It’s getting better and better with each season. It’s turned that cringey corner to become a decent little sitcom. They can only go up from here getting more talent on this show.
Ok not crazy about this on first hearing, she’s best in small doses
They have the players, now give them great material!
Great casting here. Wendie Malick always delivers in her roles. Also, you can’t miss the synergy with the original series. It was season 3 and a few attorneys( defense -original vs prosecution-today) to get the formula right. Maybe, night court 2.0 has a chance to get to season 6 or 7. I’m looking forward to this.
Best sitcom news since Reba’s announced return.
I’d decided to move on from this show, but this news is prompting me to give it another chance. Love Wendie Malick! <3
This sounds very promising.
On the one hand, I liked the old prosecutor, but on the other hand… this is so obviously a great idea. This should be great!!
Hope Roz becomes a regular too. Should be before anyone else.
