We welcome the Oversight Board's decision today, June 4, 2024, on this case which deals with a comment replying on Facebook to a post about the Rohingya people in Myanmar. The comment includes an image of a pig defecating with a caption which argues that the government of Myanmar has taken the correct course of action in “curbing” the Rohingya and calls for their “absolute erasure from the face of the Earth.”

Upon initial review, Meta left this content up. However, after the board brought the case to our attention, we determined the content violates our Violence and Incitement policy, as laid out in the Facebook Community Standards, and removed the content. Meta prohibits “threats of violence that could lead to death (or other forms of high-severity violence).” The post advocates lethal violence through “erasing” Rohingya people from Earth.

There will be no further updates to this case.
