Icarus: Climb To Olympus Announced By Lead Hearthstone Designer

I hope you’re ready to rage quit and come crawling back for more because John McIntyre, lead gameplay designer of Hearthstone, dropped a surprise today. He’s been working on a game in his spare time, a game sparked by two big indie trends: Climbing and laughing at your failures.

Icarus: Climb to Olympus was revealed in a trailer today. The gameplay resembling indies that players love to hate like Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy, which describes itself in its own Steam description as, “A game I made for a certain kind of person. To hurt them.” The newly announced title also takes inspiration from A Difficult Game About Climbing, which came out earlier this year.

McIntyre describes his upcoming project with similar language, saying, “Swing your hammer and spread your wings as you make the difficult climb to the top of Mount Olympus. Defy the gods themselves in an unconventional physics-based platformer.”

If you’re looking for the next title embracing this special kind of grueling challenge (with a Greek mythological twist), check out the reveal footage of Icarus: Climb to Olympus below.
