Personal
I’m a queer trans lady, Erin Jr.’s mama, and Eryn’s girlfriend. EJ, Eryn, and I live in San Francisco, which sits on the unceded ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlone people. I grew up near Boston, went to college in Indiana, and spent the aughts in San Diego before moving up here in the early teens.
Among other things, I’m fond of avocados, biking, craft beer, posting stuff to my blog, The Cube, my daughter, the Defenestration of Prague, Emacs, flags, FreeBSD, my girlfriend, HTML, interspecies snorgling, kittens, legos, annoying other lego people by calling them legos, mechanical keyboards, puppies, Python, retail therapy, sapphic art and literature, sport, Star Trek, the New England town meeting, transit, travel, turtles (and tortoises), Ultimate, urbanism, walking the hills of San Francisco, watches, the Web, and Zombo com.
Check my now page to see what’s up with me these days.
Professional
I manage the Web Standards & Interoperability team at Apple. I’m Apple’s AC rep at the W3C, where I also sit on the TAG and chair the Privacy Community Group. I sometimes manage to squeeze in actual spec work between meetings.
I’m godawful at staying on top of email but, if you want to try, you can reach me at hober@apple.com
. Mentioning hober on GitHub is unlikely to get my attention.

Contact me
or, you know, don’t
The best way to get in touch with me is to send an iMessage to hober@me.com
, to message me on some Slack workspace we have in common, or to mention hober@mastodon.social on your favorite ActivityPub service.
You can email me at tess@oconnor.cx
or hober0@gmail.com
for personal stuff though, as noted above, I’m quite bad at email.
I may be Gen X but my attitude toward phone calls is decidedly Millennial: don’t.
I’m a native English speaker. I took French and Japanese in school, though my command of each is abysmal. I’ve been taking Spanish and Irish lessons in Duolingo, and I’ve been learning the conlang toki pona as well.
