A new PS5 update is making it much easier for you to access Discord on the console, and you won't need your phone or PC.

Sony is rolling out a new PS5 update that will let you access Discord directly from your console, bypassing the need to use the smartphone or desktop apps.

An update adding Discord support to PS5 entered beta in February last year before being released in full the following month, but it's not currently possible to start a Discord chat without using the app on a mobile device or desktop PC.

That's all about to change, though. When the new PS5 update hits your area (which Sony says should happen "over the coming weeks"), you'll be able to open up Discord within your PS5's Game Base, then select a server and a voice channel and you'll be set.

Direct Discord integration is coming to PS5 at last.

You'll still need to ensure that your PlayStation and Discord accounts are linked (which also means you'll need a Discord account if you don't already have one), and you'll need to have updated your PS5, of course.

This isn't the only feature that's rolling out for PS5 in the coming weeks, either. Sony has also revealed that the Profile Share function is coming starting from next week.

This feature allows you to generate a link to your PlayStation profile, which you can then share to any social media or messaging app, allowing others to view your profile at a glance without needing to search for you.

It'll be as easy as selecting the "Share Profile" feature from the PS app or your console, upon which a link will be generated. Anyone who opens the link and who isn't already your PlayStation friend will be prompted to add you.

You'll soon be able to send a quick link containing your PlayStation profile to others.

Unfortunately, Sony hasn't provided any specific dates regarding when you can expect these features to arrive on your PS5.

Make sure you keep an eye out for any prompts to update your system software as and when you get them.
