Playground Games and Microsoft have announced that Forza Horizon 4 will be delisted from digital storefronts later this year, prompting a massive player surge for the game on PC.

In an announcement on the official Forza website, Playground says that "due to licensing and agreements with our partners", Forza Horizon 4 will be taken off digital stores on December 15th, which means you won't be able to buy it digitally anymore.

Microsoft and Playground have confirmed that this delisting doesn't mean you can't play the game if you've already bought it; you'll still be able to download and play Forza Horizon 4 if you own it digitally, and you'll be able to access its online features as well.

Forza Horizon 4 will no longer be available to buy digitally later this year.

As of yesterday, you can no longer buy Forza Horizon 4 DLC from the store either. You can still buy the Standard, Deluxe, or Ultimate editions of the game until December 14th, however.

Things get a little strange when it comes to Game Pass. Bear with me here, because there are a lot of stipulations.

If you have an "active, full-paid" Game Pass subscription as of June 25th, and you've played Forza Horizon 4 through that sub and also bought DLC for it, you should be eligible to get a copy of the game via your Xbox messages.

Sadly, if you've got a discounted Game Pass subscription, you won't be eligible for a code. If you do get one, make sure you use it before June 2026, as codes will start to expire from the 25th of that month.

This news has prompted a huge player surge for Forza Horizon 4 on Steam, with the player count at 47,741 and climbing at time of writing. Given that the game was peaking at around 7,500 players per day before the announcement, that's no mean feat.

Of course, the fact that Forza Horizon 4 is currently available at a massive 80% discount on Steam is likely to be a contributing factor as well. Microsoft and Playground say more sales like this are in the offing, too, so watch out for those.
