Cute robot cam. Digital zoom. Slow from plug-in to working. Portrait didn't work.
This device feels pretty slick. I'm on Linux so I was expecting to run into some limitations not having the software, but I find this device extremely capable without it.It's a little slow to boot up when plugged in. It takes about 12 seconds before the USB device appears. The manual is short, just 10 pages. There's only three gestures to learn (tracking mode, zoom +-2x, dynamic zoom). I wish the manual was clearer on whether you can manually position the camera. The only mention is the sleep mode section where it shows using your hand to point the camera down. The unit weighs about 93g. It comes with a USB C 2.0 cable, and C to A adapter. In operation it draws about 0.43A. I didn't notice much difference with tracking mode on, except when the camera moved it jumped up to 0.45A at most. In sleep mode it still draws around 0.29mA.== Image ==The zoom features all seem like digital zoom. The image gets a little grainy at high zoom levels. This keeps the gestures working, as your hands will still be in the camera's view even if they're not in the camera output. It does reasonably well focusing on close objects, up to around 10cm. Lighting can be an issue though. There isn't much compensation for darkness. It looks like this was one of the things cut for the 'Lite' model.== Sideways and upside down ==I couldn't get portrait mode to work. Even in OBS I just got a sideways shot. None of my gestures seemed to work so I think the camera is not switching modes at all. I didn't have any trouble with repositioning the camera to be mounted upside down though. It was able to switch dynamically, flip the image, and recognize all my gestures.== Software ==The software is a bit crowded. Everything is in a narrow tall window so you have to scroll a lot, and the scroll bar is tiny.It gives access to lots more detailed settings, PTZ controls, and a few extras you can't do with just the camera like bokeh, face retouching, and filters. You can set up an initial state, and it persists in the camera so you can take it to another computer. This camera exposes a lot of controls so you can even do some stuff with standard software like OBS. The user interface doesn't always line up with what you expect out of the controls though. In particular OBS' sliders didn't make a great PTZ controller, but I imagine they could be adapted if you want to do the work of setting up plugins or alternate controllers.== Internals ==The metal bottom plate is held with 4 screws, and doubles as a heatsink. The main chip is SigmaStar SSC378QE. Marketed as a 4K AI IP Camera solution. The other processor is XHSC F460JEUA, a general purpose 200 MHz 32-bit ARM Cortex-M4. Not sure what this does, as the SigmaStar seems to have all the capabilities necessary. There are two IC with part MS39233 XGKC51A. These are triple h-bridge drivers. One feeds the red-white-black wires going into the body for the pan motor. The other is next to the camera sensor connector, so presumably controls the tilt camera. There is Winbond W25N01GVZEIG flash memory (128 MB). Definitely on the large side for such a device so I presume there is actually an AI model involved.A couple microphones sit on a flexible PCB near the front of the case.I didn't explore the motor and camera sensor areas.

I recently moved my main Mac system (M2 Mac mini) to my secondary system. On my Mac I was using an Opel desktop camera. I was an early adopter of the camera and Beta user. It mostly worked as advertised but I was never happy with the quality. My main system is now a Geekom A8 Ryzen running Mint. Very happy with the switch so far. I needed a camera for the new system. I'm not a streamer, gamer or content producer but need a good camera for communications, meetings etc. I did some research and settled on the Obsbot Tiny 2. Received the camera which was a journey in itself; the delivery was changed 4 times. There currently isn't any native support for Linux so I had to load the software and firmware changes and do it on the Mac. Immediately I noticed a quality, easy of use improvement and better video over the Opel. Software and firmware upgrades went easy and simple without a reboot (I hated this on the Mac). I moved the camera over to my new main Linux system. I had a couple of early morning meetings and EVERYONE I had videos with remarked, unsolicited how much better the picture quality was. I also like the feature when not in use, the camera faces down rather than the lens cap on the Opel.

So far it just works, which is something everyone should expect. Reading the forums, there are plans to include a Linux application soon. Very pleased with the Obsbot.

Plug and Play! I connected this adorable little camera with the included USB cable, and it works... but wait, there is more!

Naturally, I expected to HAVE to download some special software, and I tried to go to the website to download specific software for the camera, and I get a security warning from Windows.

Well, I would kind of love to have the special operating software to do anything super duper cool with this camera, but oddly enough - we don't need to!

I have the Windows Insider version of Windows 11. When I open the Camera App built into Windows, the camera is there, ready to go to work.

Now this little camera is far superior to any webcam I ever worked with, it is like a little automatic camera operator... let's look at that, shall we?

It uses hand gestures for a few basic items. Raise your hand up like you're waving hello (don't move your hand, just an open hand, like a "wave."), a green light flashes, and then we get a blue light, solid. The camera is now going to follow us around like a camera operator... nothing like I have seen before, and it is very good at it!

Zoom in, raise your hand, index finger and thumb out, other fingers closed like a fist, and it will zoom in 2X on us. It will also still follow us in this mode unless we shut that off.

Want to zoom in or out from there? both hands, same gesture, but move your hands closer together, or further apart to zoom in and out.

Now, I believe this camera can do more, but getting a security warning from Windows stops me cold in my tracks, and I will not go against that warning, so I hope obsbot.com cleans up whatever the issue is, so we can grab any updates or downloads the camera has.

However, even with what I have here? This camera far exceeds... pretty much all of the recent cameras I have reviewed!

And that the name is OBSBOT, Open Broadcaster Software (OBS), reminds me that this would be an EXCELLENT opportunity to use a webcam along with whatever class or video we are making, especially when this thing follows us around faithfully!, I will be looking for USB extension cords so that I can use this a little further away from my computer to record some more test videos.

This is a PTZ, Pan, Tilt, Zoom camera - and it works wonderfully.

    Five Stars!

I spend a considerable amount of time on conference calls and you know what, I'm looking forward to them next week

This webcam is so lightweight that when mounted on the lid of the Surface Pro or the HP laptop, it doesn't start causing the lid to close.

I really like how when not in use, it nods off to sleep, facing the lens downwards and keeping the dust off it

The base is ready for a tripod type of connector or flip it open and there is a nice clip to attach it to the top of your monitor or wherever you wish to mount it.

Now when it comes to the normal faffing about with installing software, you don't need to here, no messing about with drivers, I've used it with both Win11 and Win10 and both times, it's how plug and play should be

The quality of the picture is really excellent and it has a strong lens as my face hasn't broken it so far

On conference calls, it's so easy to use the tracking, fixed and zoom modes

Very impressed and a lovely device here, really like it
