Product Description
Exploding kittens is a card game for people who are into kittens and explosions and laser beams and sometimes goats. In this highly-strategic, kitty-powered version of Russian roulette, players draw cards until someone draws an exploding kitten, at which point They explode, they are Dead, and they are out of the game -- unless that player has a defuse card, which can defuse the kitten using things like laser pointers, belly rubs, and catnip sandwiches. All of the other cards in the deck are used to move, mitigate, or avoid the exploding kittens. This nsfw version of the game contains the full version of exploding kittens, but the artwork on each card has been replaced with content too horrible/amazing to be used in the original exploding kittens game. The nsfw edition can be played with 2 to 5 players or combined with another deck to play with up to 9 players.

Will you like the design of the game? That depends. Do you enjoy The Oatmeal? The humor tends towards ridiculousness, not really cleverness. More genital humor than any Oatmeal comics I've seen. The first game with any new player will take twice as long as normal - a little extra time while they learn the rules, and lots of time as they hold each card up and remark "whaaaaaaat? OMG, infinity boner?" After that you mostly ignore what's on the pictures, aside from the occasional "Oh yeah, I like this card, hehe."
My only complaint is that there is a ton of wasted space in the box. There seem to be about as many cards as a standard playing deck (52), but the box is much larger than that. The cards are split into two piles in a plastic raiser that leaves about 50% of the box depth empty beneath it. The two piles of cards will slide all around inside the box, since there's only a small lip on the raiser to keep them in place. The only thing that takes up the full space allotted to it in the box is the instruction sheet, which, you know, could have just been folded differently. My guess is they did this so the box would take up more space on a store shelf to help attract buyers. It's only a minor annoyance, but more than 50% of the box is wasted space.
This game is really quick/easy to learn. After about 3 minutes explanation and a couple of practice rounds, even the novices around the table were engaged and happy to be playing. If you want to play with more than 5 players, you can combine two decks and have a larger game. We played with 9 players and had wonderful fun. The game moves quickly enough that it doesn't get boring with extra players at the table.
It is a fun mix of memory, strategy and luck. The object of the game is to be the last person alive, or the only person to not receive an Exploding Kitten card. Each player gets a turn where they are required to draw from the deck and at any time may get an exploding kitten. If you have a diffuse card in your hand you can use it to stay alive. Other cards allow you to see into the future (check the top three cards on the deck), force someone else to give you a card, skip a turn or force multiple turns on another player. Depending on how many players you have, games can last anywhere from 10-40 minutes.
The NSFW edition just has some imagery on the cards that could be considered a little vulgar or not suitable for children. I have played it with my uber conservative parents and siblings and have managed to scrape by with a couple of disapproving looks so I would say that this game is mildly NSFW. You can also get the SFW deck if you are concerned about that.
Overall, we love this game and highly recommend it.
