Used game sold as "new"
We (my kid and I) saw several reviews stating that they got messages the CD Key was already in use so we purposely bought a game listed as "new".It didn't matter; we also got a "key already in use" message.Maybe the game is great; we don't know. What I do know is, I cannot recommend buying this game from this listing. Be warned!

I got this game for Christmas and installed it the same day but just recently got around to playing it, originally there were some massive lag issues but that was on my end, not the game's (I'm on a laptop with a 650M GPU that was underclocking itself as the new Kepler technology tends to do when the chip gets hot, so I had to force the GPU's clock to remain at a single clock as opposed to letting it fluctuate). Now that it's fixed I get a solid 40-60 FPS at 1600 x 900 (native for me) resolution with almost everything on max or the middle aside AA. I'm about 7 hours or so into the story, which I find nicely written, though as someone who likes history I find some plot points cringe worthy. I like the historical accuracy mixed with the studio's own sometimes humorous fiction.

There are some weird plot points I feel that don't make sense but are overall minor and insignificant to the plot.

Overall the game is very fun and the only install issue I had is that I failed to realize the code needed to be typed exactly how it is written into uPlay, which is a nice system for DRM, it allows you to unlock content for using their awards system, whenever you get an achievement you get uplay points which you can spend on more content. I've yet to play without an internet connection so I'm not sure how that will fair, but time will tell.

One of my favorite features is being able to captain a ship, they could make a game entirely based on this type of combat, it feels reminiscent of Battlestations Pacific in how the ship is controlled but more simple like it should be. They integrate the mission types well, there are missions to make trade routes more secure for when you conduct trade with ships, as well as story missions that are good. some of the earlier trade route missions are completed easily and in under a couple of minutes but they get longer and more enjoyable

I will attempt to address some of the complaints people have been posting about in newer reviews:

The controls they're fairly easy to use; holding right mouse button makes you sprint/run and if you run into an object you'll climb/jump on it and this is how you get around. I have little issue with this, I've climbed up things I didn't mean to while sprinting but it's never been serious enough to make me fail a mission or anything.

Hunting can be annoying; I've found that sticking to the trees with the hidden blade equipped provides the best result, that or stay in tall grass so you're hidden and throw bait, this is how the game teaches you to hunt in the introduction to the feature. The only hunting method I'm not sure how to do properly yet is the snare.

I do agree that full sync is hard if not impossible (for me yet) to achieve and that you have more fun going for just a few of them if any at all, sometimes it is fun to do but after a few failed missions because of trying to complete the optional objectives it's funner to just give up on them and play the story. As to the varying damage/controls being rigged to make you fail missions I've never encountered this, I didn't have any issues saving Terry or any other mission where I felt like I'm taking more damage or not acting like I should be.

I do however slightly dislike that one click of the mouse will do a massive combo attack to show off the fancy animations, while the game doesn't seriously suffer from the "one button does everything" syndrome some others do, I don't like it as much and still find myself clicking the attack button plenty while attacking because of the sheer number of animations going on.

If anyone has questions/comments I will help as best I can.

If you have played assassins creed from the very beginning then this is the game that will complete that adventure. I have played AC1, AC2, Brotherhood, Revelations, and now AC3. I enjoyed the story from the very beginning, and enjoyed the improved game mechanics throughout the series. AC3 did remove how you free run from the previous games, but i understand that they did this for a more fluid running environment for tree running. Also i noticed that they made finishing moves more epic, and the battles with enemies are much more intense and even more fun than Revelations. The addition of Naval Battles so greatly improved this game, gone are the headaches of Den battles from Brotherhood, and instead of Mediterranean Defense you now use your recruits to clean up the eastern seaboard of the colonies from Templar influence. The missions help level your recruits, as well as generate income. You now have a ship that can be upgraded to allow you to experience epic naval battles as you progress for trade routes as well as Captain Kidd missions. They are so fun, that i ended up replaying most of them, just because they are a total blast to play. Its a new concept to the game, and it looks like they will keep this idea with AC4.

I felt that the Assassin's Creed series was lacking in the last two releases but this game has brought me back to the place I was at in AC 2, pure awe. The combat is the first thing I would like to applaud, they really slimmed it down and took the Rocksteady approach making combat a joy to play and watch. The flowing battles feel natural and the weapons are fun to use in combination. Pick up a dropped gun and fire a bullet before using the bayonet to stab the next opponent and with the easy to use combat system just keep targeting opponents in range to keep the combos going. Horses are finally back. I thought horses were the greatest thing in AC 2 and was surprised to find them missing from the next two sequels. Well they are back and so is exploration. I love the open world feel and with the lack of those ridiculous economy systems of the last two games you can go back to enjoying the story once again. I think this is my new favorite of the series and with the amazing sea battles, outdoor hunting, and new slimmed down control systems it is easy to see why. I would put this in my top 5 of 2012. Don't pass this one up.

First of all, yes I'm aware of the minimum system requirements, I'm running an Intel i5 3.3 ghz, on Windows 7 64bit, 8gb of ram, EVGA Nvidia Geforce 570 GTX with all new drivers installed and verified, including a bios update. I've contacted Ubisoft to troubleshoot and they've verified my system should be running the game fine. System temperatures are running within the normal operating ranges (verified with Everest, as well as Speccy). I also have a Corsair H80 GPU Liquid Cooler. I'm running on the lowest graphics settings, although I shouldn't have to, since my build runs Tera, Skyrim, BF3, all at the highest resolution.

The problem is, every 5-10 minutes, the game (after running smoothly without a hitch for those 5-10 minutes), crashes unexpectedly and inexplicably to the desktop. I can still hear the background voices and sounds of the Boston streets, but the program just stops responding and I have to Ctl+Alt+Del and end the program.

I bought the darn thing on PS3 just to play the game, and am pursuing a refund on the PC version. I've been on the Ubisoft forums, and there are a few who experienced the same issues. I'll install on a 32 bit windows system later on and see if I have the same problems. Really disappointed since I was looking forward to the game and it seems like it'd be fun. But the crashes make it unplayable, even after the first day patch, and the Thanksgiving patch.
