This is one of the scariest movies I have ever seen - not just because I'm claustrophobic and the spelunking makes me want to die. Once you get past the uncomfortable terror of shoving bodies in between spaces humans are not meant to go - then the inevitable disaster occurs. Did we see it coming? Did we know there would be a cave-in, I mean yes, it was predictable - our group had to be stuck in the unknown cave system that they are not even supposed to be in. But the man vs. nature survival story takes a stomach dropping turn when the introduction of the m-f*** humanoid cave monsters shows up and then it is on. All the gore and jump scares. And as a self-appointed horror expert - a satisfactory ending.

Lots of jump outs and thought provoking scenarios.

Thrilling ride of a film with horror aspects. However, leave it to Amazon to label this a "fun" movie with an incorrect trailer. Like many other films/tv series on Prime Video, the labels are incorrect when previewing genre, cast, and screenshots. For a billion dollar company, you all just seem to dump these films on your platform with little to no oversight into quality control.

**WARNING: SPOILERS**
To be perfectly honest, I wasn't expecting a lot from this movie. I remember seeing the cover of this film back in the Blockbuster days and never being interested. I finally decided to watch it the other evening and was pleasantly surprised, for a couple of reasons.
1. It is so damn rare to find a female-focused horror movie. There is ONE man in the whole damn film, and he's basically just a plot device. Nice role reversal. But, more than that, this movie centered around a group of women who are not strangers to adventure; these women are tough AF. Throughout the movie, we get to see them navigate dangerous terrain and fight freaky cave-dwelling monsters, which is hella refreshing even if they don't all survive (spoiler: one survives).
2. Related to the first point, the character dynamics are actually pretty solid. This movie isn't necessarily about the relationships between the women, but it does play a major role at certain points. There are some really poignantly disturbing moments, such as when Beth asks Sarah to euthanize her so she won't be eaten alive. There's also something really interesting about the end, when Sarah stabs Juno and leaves her behind.
3. The actual horror aspect of it is really well done. It starts out vaguely creepy and just intensifies throughout the movie. They a great job of bringing the sense of disorientation and claustrophobia that would come from such a situation to the screen. This isn't a jump-scare kind of horror movie, but a gruesome adventure where the carnage just keeps mounting.
4. There are some shots that are honestly just real pretty and/or interestingly gruesome. I'm particularly thinking about the ending shot of Sarah climbing out of the cave, having to scramble over a veritable mountain of bones to get to the surface.
The only real complaint I have about the movie is the monsters. Yes, they were freaky looking. But I'm a biologist at heart, and when Beth (or Rebecca) said the creatures were "perfectly evolved" to live in the cave, I wasn't sold. On the whole, though, this is a minor complaint. This is a solid horror movie and I will definitely be watching again.

"The Descent" is essentially a heartwarming tale of friendship, resilience, and the universal truth that going on a vacation with friends can sometimes turn into a horror story. So, the next time you're considering cave exploration as a bonding activity, maybe just stick to a spa day. At least there, the only things lurking in the dark are cucumbers waiting to soothe your eyes.

Enjoyable horror movie with a good premise, but god did I forget how awful the cinematography was at the time with action scenes; e.g. 10 different 1/2 second clips to get through the motion of main character swinging a weapon once at the threat: one shot raising the arm, one shot weapon zoom in, one shot monster's zoomed-in head, one shot swinging motion, separate shot weapon hitting the head, etc ,etc. Still gives me a headache to this day, if nothing else out of frustration with how badly done it is.

I loved The Decent! Oh my gosh, it was scary and different and original. I was a nervous wreck watching it. I've seen The Decent a dozen times and STILL get startled! I highly recommend if you love scary, intense horror flicks.

I really love this movie. I first saw it in 2006, but now it being 2023 I was reintroduced to it. In that time gap, I had completely forgotten everything about the movie.
I wish Beth lived or atleast had a longer time frame to get away. Also Holly. But knowing she was unable to run let alone walk, it would be impossible. But Beth had a chance had she just called out to Juno before approaching her which led to her being accidentally impaled.
Officially one of my favorite horror movie.

One of my favourite horror movies, Neil Marshall does great horror. Love the characters, the setting and the uneasy. Also the theories this film has spawned are fantastic and really good for film nerds to share.
