Sustainable Games Alliance

The games industry should lead the way on sustainability

The Sustainable Games Alliance is a non-profit founded by the world’s leading game entrepreneurs and environmental researchers with one goal: to make the games industry the leader in sustainability by setting ambitious and achievable standards for environmental and social responsibility.

Because if not us, then who?

Compliance and emissions reduction

We help game companies make sense of complex global sustainability legislation and how it applies to the games industry, enabling easy compliance that is more than just box-ticking and leads to increasing long-term sustainability.

By pooling resources, facilitating sustainability research and integrating best practices, we speed up the process for all of us, saving time and money.

More about sustainability legislation

Comparable data and benchmarking

By having a global, research-backed standard for games sustainability reporting, we enable meaningful, comparable industry-wide reporting.

Members of the SGA gain access to benchmarking of their sustainability metrics against other SGA member organisations, undertaken confidentially, allowing for meaningful insight into focus areas for long-term sustainability improvement.

Actionable for game developers

Consultants unfamiliar with the games industry can make data collection unnecessarily complex and cumbersome. The SGA Standard speaks the language of the games industry, and facilitates reporting that is actionable and relevant to game development teams.

The SGA Standard is designed by industry professionals, with input from the people in the trenches of existing ESG disclosures, streamlining reporting, and making ESG disclosures an essential source of sustainability insight to inform strategy.

Setting the standard for games sustainability

The Sustainable Games Alliance Standard is a comprehensive & freely available set of guidance, definitions, data, documents and tools that make it easy for the games industry to comply with sustainability regulations globally.

The standard is developed by the SGA’s team of games industry professionals and sustainability researchers in close collaboration with our members.

Events

July 25th 2024: How can game studios implement the EU's new Double Materiality requirement?

In this workshop, the SGA will kick off the first of our events aimed at educating and preparing games businesses on the requirements of the EU’s new “double materiality” concept. This will require the games business to consider both the sustainability impacts games have on the world, and the impacts a changing climate is likely to have on games businesses itself.
