Personalise your Google Play Store experience

Understand your personalised Google Play experience

To help improve your experience, Google Play can provide you with relevant content tailored for you, which can include app and book recommendations, offers and search results. These recommendations and offers can be presented in Google Play, as well as in apps and games managed by Google Play to help provide you with the best experience across the Play ecosystem. Some examples of the activity that Play uses to personalise your experiences are your searches, impressions, activity related to Google Play Games and your Google Play Games profile, and your app activity.

Turn personalisation and activity collection on or off

To edit your Google Play personalisation settings:

  1. Open the Google Play Store Google Play.
  2. Tap your profile picture and then Personalisation in Play and then Play personalisation and history.
  3. Turn Web & App Activity on or off.

Tips:

  • When you turn on Web & App Activity, you may get faster and improved search results, app and content recommendations and offers based on your activity, and faster app updates for the apps that you use most often.
  • When you turn off Web & App Activity, Google Play will not save your future app activity or be able to use that data to personalise your Google Play experience.

Manage your personalisation preferences

Important: If Web & App Activity is turned off, you can't manage Play personalisation options.

If you don't want to turn on personalisation for all data types, you can control which types of data in your account Play uses to personalise results and recommendations for you in the Google Play Store.

Tip: Your changes may take up to 24 hours to take effect.

Your device details

Play may use information about devices that you've used with Google Play, such as make or model, to provide more personalised experiences.

To control whether Play can use information about the devices associated with your account to improve personalisation:

  1. Open the Google Play Store Google Play.
  2. Tap your profile picture and then Personalisation in Play and then Other Play personalisation settings.
  3. Turn Your device details on or off.

If you turn off device details-based personalisation, Play will continue to use device details to ensure that we deliver the right experience while you're browsing the Play Store in order to ensure that we can deliver the right apps and games for your devices.

Your Play content

You can personalise your experience based on items that you've bought or acquired through Play, like apps, books or games. You can tell Play not to use data associated with that item for personalisation within the Play Store and other experiences across the Play ecosystem. For example, if you turn off personalisation for a particular app, then data such as app activity, purchases, offers, when you installed or uninstalled that app, and activity related to Google Play Games and your Google Play Games profile associated with that app will not be used for personalisation.

To control which items may be used to personalise your experience:

  1. Open the Google Play Store Google Play.
  2. Tap your profile picture and then Personalisation in Play and then Other Play personalisation settings.
  3. Under 'Your Play content', tap Manage.
  4. Under 'Your content', turn specific apps or content on or off.

You can choose how long your Play history information is saved for, and delete it at any time.
