Guilty Gear basics

Love or hate it, Guilty Gear Isuka has come to Steam. I know it isn't exactly an orthadox Guilty Gear game, but I thought I should compile at least small gameplay guide just in case anyone particularly new to the franchise decides to buy this game.

I'm not really a super-pro at any of the games in the series, but I'll do my best to at least give a small rundown on things. This happens to also be the first Guide I've ever made on Steam, and will probably be a work in progress so if I miss anything, I'll probably add it later.

Screen Layout

Because this game supports up to four players at once, the screen may seem a little off to those used to the 1 on 1 single lane style of the other Guilty Gear games (or really any other Fighter).

As you can see there are four HP bars rather than two. Huh wonder why that is. Your character's name and their Burst Gauge are located directly under these, with a colored arrow that tells you which direction that character is facing at the moment. At the bottom of the screen you can see the Tension bars that belong to the character above. If your character uses any special gauges (such as Robo-Ky's heat level, Eddie's shadow meter, or Johnny's coins) they'll usually be above your Tension.

The red dot (called Souls) close to your HP bar acts like Stocks or remaining lives from the Smash Bros. games. If your HP bar depletes and you have at least one dot, your character will utter one of their Defeated phrases, get knocked down, and their life bar will refill completely. Getting defeated without one of these left will result in a K.O. and you'll sit out the rest of the match.
(As far as I know, there may be a way to revive if you're on Team Battle mode or something. I have no clue at the moment.)

As you can see, Sol and Johnny seem normal but Eddie and Bridget seem to be in the background. That's because they're in the opposite lane (meaning no attacks done by Sol and Johnny will affect them or vice versa, unless one of them lane switches to cause havoc).
Basic Controls
In this game, there are four attack buttons to use:

- Punch (Square)
- Kick (Cross)
- Slash (Triangle)
- Hard/Heavy Slash (Circle)

Typically character moves that make use of Slash have a Heavy Slash variant that's a tad stronger but has more recovery time.

- Slash + H.Slash : Dust Launcher. This attack comes out kind of slow and launches your opponent into the air for a good moment. Holding up right as your opponent rises will let you jump to them for an air combo. It's also worth noting that most Dusts hit overhead.

- L2 : Reverse attack. Just a quick strike that comes out behind you. Roughly on par with your H.slash.

Movement in this game is pretty basic until it comes to 'Lane switching'.

- Press up to jump, and up again to double jump. Holding down for a quick moment and hitting up will do a super jump. While in the air you can either double-tap forward or back to dash, but be careful while using these.

- Double tapping back on the ground will let you backdash a short distance, but this shouldn't be overused because you could get caught in an attack during the dash. Tapping forward will let you run (or fly) forward and slowly gain speed.

- Holding back lets you defend, of course. You're still vulnerable to low attacks if you stand and guard, and you're vulnerable to overhead attacks while crouch guarding. Holding two attack buttons while holding back lets you go into Faultless Defense, which lets your guard defend against even Chip Damage from special moves and supers. This defense eats your tension gauge while being used though, so be careful.

R1 is your turn around key, and is probably one of the buttons you'll be using the most.
- R1 + P : Causes you to dash attack into the opposite lane.
- R1 + S : An attack that comes out similar to your Dust launcher that throws whoever it hits into the opposite lane.
- R1 + HS : Just lets you dash harmlessly to the opposite lane.

Basic Character tactics
Here I'll put some basic tactics for characters I'm at least SOMEWHAT familiar with.
If anyone has any tips regarding any of the characters not listed here, or have any improvements to listed characters feel free to tell me.

- Sol Badguy: Probably the most rounded character in the game. A good starter character for most people alongside Ky. His range isn't as good as his Lightning flinging rival, but he can put much more offensive pressure onto his enemies by rushing them without a break. Use Gunflame when the situation permits, and remember it can hit some downed enemies (in some cases also do a short juggle). Avoid careless Volcanic Viper uppercuts and Bandit Revolvers. Dragon Install will turn you into an unstoppable force for a short time, but you'll be stunned momentarily when it ends. Use it carefully (as it also drains a small amount of HP).

- Ky Kiske: His playstyle is similar to Ryu's from Street Fighter (Pretty good fireball and an uppercut). Try to space using the Stun Edge fireball and mix it up by tossing an Aerial version now and then. The Charged Stun Edge isn't very good at long range, so try to use it after knocking down an enemy. Greed Sever can be nice to toss in after successful Gatling Combos and on counter-hit (I think) bounces enemies off the ground for a short air combo. Ride the Lightning can be used in the air and in some cases can hit downed enemies. It's good to use this at the end of a combo rather than throwing it out there randomly when there's a good amount of space inbetween you and the enemy. Otherwise Sacred Edge might be a better option.

- Robo-Ky: I have more experience with him in Accent Core than I do with his #Reload incarnation seen here. Be patient and use the charger pad (crouch+dust) to build meter to level up your special moves (has 3 levels). Try to avoid using them at level 1 battery because they aren't very good. His standing and crouching punch has advantage on block (as far as I know) and can stuff attacks pretty well. Watch your heat gauge or else your momentum could be shut down, you'll be able to tell his heat level (1-3) from his metal plate color along with the gauge (Vent heat with forward + HS. It also becomes a nice poke at level 2 and 3). Your helicopter (Air + Dust) can hit opponents above you. His Elbow Shotgun is a good response to most attacks and destroys projectiles, but generates a good amount of heat and has reload time (R.Ky will eject the shell from his mouth). Limit-Lovers puts Robo-Ky into overdrive mode, making him faster and gives near-infinite Battery power and eliminates the threat of overheat. You'll detonate after it ends however, so be sure to be near your enemy after the 10 seconds are up.

- Eddie: The key to being effective with Eddie is being able to get a feel for when to summon the Shadow and being able to manage it and Zato's corpse. Having them work in together in a combined assault is an absolute nightmare for your foes. Don't try to use H.Slash in your Gatling combos and don't rush without the Shadow. Keep in mind you're one of the slower characters in the game. Use Invite Hell to play keep away or bother your opponent. Remember that it has 4 variants in Isuka (Two infront of you and two behind you). Eddie's offensive power is mediocre alone, but with the Shadow at his side to cover his attack recovery, he becomes insane. Try to dismiss the Shadow before the gauge depletes completely. Avoid using the Shadow's H.Slash unless you plan to set up a trap, because it consumes the entire gauge and turns it into a landmine that will detonate into an enhanced Invite Hell. The Saw (K), Jab (P), and Anti-air claw (S) are usually better options. Amorphous is one of the more damaging Supers in the game, but makes for a terrible reversal. Reaches into the air a good amount.

- Venom: Force people to play by your rules by relentlessly using his cue balls. Carcass Raid can stop most aerial approaches. Use the Ball Formation whenever pressure is low and it's safe to do so to set up deadly traps. Remember that almost any of Venom's attacks can set the balls in motion and turn the screen into a table for a fatal game of Pool. Dark Angel is arguably one of the best Supers in the game and causes Hell on an opponent's HP bar even when blocked - use it in situations where your back is against the wall.

As stated before, I'll add more to this Guide with time (Like Roman and False Roman Cancels). Isuka isn't really a competitive game by any means and probably doesn't even need a guide like this, but what the Hell. Let me know what you think.

Good to see someone has put the time and effort into making a guide for a game that is not very well know on steam. Good Job.
