Early Access Review
Fun Survivor Auto-Shooter with a unique digging/mining mechanic. Huge fan of DRG so the familiar setting is endearing.

This game is HARD, like really really difficult.
If the current Vampire Survivors with all "hard modifiers" toggled ranks as a 1/10 in difficulty, Hazard 5 as certain classes in this game is an 11. As the game is still in Early Access it's understandable that some tuning is out of whack. Some classes and their specs struggle significantly more than others, and beating the higher difficulties requires a good amount of luck - much more so than your average Survivor Auto-Shooter.

Definitely worth playing in its current state, but be forewarned that there exists a huge disparity in difficulty between runs where RNG will unavoidably kill your current attempt.

The game is now playable online!
It still crashes sometimes (like when a friend accidentally put his PC to sleep).
Still sucks it discards all progress and IP from the current session when this happens.
Region lock is GONE.

Game released in an unacceptable state, but they fixed the most critical issues:

Lots of crashes.
Crashed on completion of tutorial, discarding all progress.
Crashes when configuring settings.
Crashes during combo trials, discarding all progress.

Region lock prevents you from finding your friends unless you configure your Steam download region setting to the same area.
Despite finding my friend and connecting to them in a Player Room or Quick Match - the match failed to start. One player gets a black screen with 2 squares in the bottom right corner, and the other person sees a dimmed stage and frozen characters. Then you're booted from the network mode if you're not the host of the room.

Gameplay's alright.
Quite a few steps backwards from Vermintide 2 in terms of QoL and accessibility.
Timegating and other predatory tactics make a recommendation impossible.

Worth it for the banging OST alone.

It's the definitive version of the Guilty Gear XX Series.

Recently re-tried the game.

It's not the same as when I initially played it. The old the standard game mode of "FFA Battle Royal" isn't available from the get-go anymore, instead locked behind first grinding trophies in event game modes. Don't know why they'd do that.

Old:
Tightest Bomberman clone I've played. Controls are excellent and load times are lightning fast - no time consuming cutscenes or useless transitions. Hit detection and collision are on point, netcode overall feels great with only occasional laggy "phantoms".

A homage (maybe a bit more) to Megaman and fun platformer in its own right with tight controls (Except for that random-ass charge attack with Grolla sometimes when you take damage wtf?).
A decent challenge even for veterans of the genre I reckon, with more to have when going for the achievements.

The game borrows HEAVILY from Megaman, with another reviewer even going as far as saying that if you've played Megaman, you've played RKS. While I see their point - I think the game is a worthwhile experience especially if you have played the classic Megaman games. For me, there was a certain charm to the familiarity but to each his own.

The game is riddled with classic shenanigans which were staples of the retro era: instant kill spikes, instant kill pits, lasers that gradually cover the screens - and enemies (in)conveniently placed at spots to make you fall off ledges due to knockback.

Inexperienced players might hate these - but git gud.

There were no "impossible" or "unfeasible" screens in the game requiring anything beyond the bare minimum toolkit at the time - simply practice caution and observe. The laser part on Freudia's stage can indeed be hellish if it's your first time - but each screen would need maximum 1 death provided you actually pay attention. If you just can't do it, there is of course another way to clear it. If you cannot beat a stage, try another one! There are upgrades from other bosses which will help you clear certain hurdles, and every boss has a weakness. Use your brain if your skills fail you.

Certain levels feel a tad bit short, or empty at times - and the enemy variation is poor. Some levels have chokepoints that will take some time to efficiently clear and the difference in attention to detail for bosses' attack patterns is very noticable but Freudia's boss fight in particular felt incredibly satisfying to master.

The music is really good, the story is there - as with most Megaman games.
The password feature is charming, but kinda obnoxious when you have to save a screenshot.
Could've a been a fun complement to regular save files but it's no biggie.

Overall, great value for the 3€ price tag during a sale in my case and looking forward to starting the second game with high hopes and expectations.

I revisited the game after roughly 4 years of development.
Zombies now die in 3 punches, and I was able to explore and punch infected for a whole 20 minutes before ALL MY KEYBOARD BINDINGS in game became unresponsive after attempting to open my Steam overlay.
