HOMM3 worship, pixel graphics aren't great but don't get in the way, autobattler is nice, there isn't a nice city screen or anything, but the gameplay is fine. HOMM3 is still better.

The combat does not give tactical depth, you can attack head-on and thats about it (no flanking)
And how did they manage to make the magic system that uninteresting?
The maps are inflationary cluttered with pickups, more is always better - right?
I hoped for some HOMM feel. Did not find it here.

I wish there was a "mid" rating to give here. HoMM2/3 were my favorite games, and this comes close...but doesn't quite hit the mark. As others have mentioned, many aspects of this game are well executed, and are quite enjoyable (great pixel art, exploration is fun, interesting factions, etc...), but somewhere in the execution of it all feels empty. Certainly worth a try if you are a fan of the genre, but maybe won't land for everyone.
