I have the same issue. Tried a few dif controllers, but trigger cannot be changed. Have to settle for a bumper button.

That's right.

I have:
A=Accelerate
B-Brake
R Bumper=Special Mechanism
L Bumper=Drift
R Trigger=Change Camera

No, you can't and I have a high end XBox One Controller (for ten bucks). My setup suits me, even though R Trigger always has meant accelerate (except in "Star Wars: Squadrons" and some others).

I have:
A=Accelerate
B-Brake
R Bumper=Special Mechanism
L Bumper=Drift
R Trigger=Change Camera
