drifting on keyboard

did anyone figure this out? i'm stuck on a race because opponent cars can drift while i can't

I can't drifting to work using any control method...

You release accel button then quickly press the drift button while cornering. If it still doesn't work, try either pressing the drift button twice after you release the accel button or press and hold the drift button.

Works for me on keyboard.

I have it mapped to left bumper, Special Mechanism on my right (easy to access while holding down A for accelerate on my Controller.

Having been a M+K-only warrior since 1979, I can see your issue. I have looked at the key bindings and it can be done by creating a custom profile.
I will say, and this is very recent for me, that controller is the minimum you really need for Driving/ Racing games. I fought for years, and considered console controllers on a PC to the height of vulgarity. Now...not so much
