I don't want to seem ungrateful for ggxxnet's existence since it means that we can play online...at all, but was there no way to put a more robust and modern netcode like GGPO into the game? ggxxnet wasn't used because it was good, but because it was necessary, and this seemed like a good opportunity to upgrade to something more stable.

Well, that's something already.

GGPO would require additional licensing costs, and the game would need to be rebuilt to support GGPO. I'm not entirely sure how ggxxnet works, but I can almost guarentee implimenting anything close to GGPO wouldn't be nearly as easy. Not even close.

I think it would be great if you looked into packaging the modification in with the base game itself, or an alternate Steam stream. Downloading third party files from Mediafire to enable a core feature like netplay seems... silly. I can only imagine the crapstorm it would cause with licensing, of course. The very least, I think it would be great to mention the existence of the netplay patch on the store page. The page says only "local co-op", but that doesn't do justice to the game, does it?

that sounds unprofessional to me
I am looking forward to getting this game with a few friends, I cannot wait to play it!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I guess I'll re-buy this a 4th time now for trading cards.

If you have the japanese version of reload, can you play only with people who buy the steam version?
Flo Sep 7, 2014 @ 9:55pm
CWheezy: Steam and non-Steam users of ggxxnet can play together just fine. If you're using the Japanese version however, you'll want to apply the original Japanese patch available here:

ggxxnet is kaillera style, which means there are no latency-reducing artifacts and if you play at X ms latency, you will have X/frame_delay additional latency in-game (this shifts timings a little bit).
At least it should be working like that.

This means that if you want to feel at most 1~2 frame delay you should set the frame delay like that:
- 0 < 23 ms 1f or more
- 24 < 45 ms 2f or more
- 46 < 67 ms 3f or more
- 68 < 89 ms 4f or more
And don't bother playing with people pinging more than that and/or with frame delay settings less than what listed. Also, this is a fan made patch, meaning it can get trouble with vsync or framerate settings.

2KI: I meant "GGPO-style" as in "you are given the option to configure your input delay for a smoother playing experience, like GGPO". You're right in that ggxxnet doesn't use GGPO-style rollbacks, and since it seems that people are confusing the two I'll edit that line. Thanks!
